I highly recommend the regular exercise part. Since I got the Dance Bug last year, I've dropped a bunch of weight, and can't recall any time in my life that I've felt better.
Now if only my personal life would turn around... Ah well.
I'm sorry they let you go, but it's great that you feel so good about it. Did they decide they should have someone younger to take advantage of so they wouldn't have the guilt of finding you dead at the end of an 80 hour week after doing it for so many years?
I hope whatever you do in the future allows you to enjoy a life outside of work.

Everyone knew that Fidelity would have to let people go. It was just a question of who and when. The Contingency Plan specifies a certain number of people to be let go when the stock market drops to each of a series of low points, which it did some time ago.
Of course, when the stock market rises again, they may decide to "make change" by hiring 2 25-year-olds to replace a 50+-year-old. But I don't mind at all. :)
I'm sorry to hear that you've lost your job, but I'm glad to hear that you're using it as an opportunity to make a positive change in your life. I hope you find a good job close to home that doesn't require such punishing hours!
- you're always left to pick up the pieces, I'm glad for once you aren't responsible to have to do that.
- I was born in 1978. :)
- If you're interested in database work, www.pythian.com is hiring. Our office is 614 Mass Ave, Central Square Cambridge. I think it's about 4 steps from the T stop. And you'd have at least one kickass coworker :) (any database, MySQL, Oracle or SQL Server. I'd encourage you to apply even if you think you're too junior, 'cause it never hurts to try. Plus I really think you'd like Paul, the president).
12 years is a LONG time to keep an online file, and I didn't succeed. *That* was helped out by a co-worker who deleted the files I had cached on an unused filesystem, then deleted them again JUST BEFORE the backup tapes got recycled, at the end of 30 days. Ya gotta love someone who's that industrious!
I'll have to go back to the last paper one I saved.
