After almost half a decade on livejournal, this blog is moving to:

alanlastufka.com/blog
.
(please go re-"follow", update your RSS, links,
re-bookmark, change your socks, whatever you need to do, man)
There are really only two simple reasons for this, which I am willing to share:

1. Comments. I get numerous emails and @replies on twitter from people ( Read more... )

Is there any way to get updates on livejournal about blogspot posts? I'm not that tech savvy, I mean more then some people but not that much more, and I don't want to get yet another account on something I'm not going to use or am going to use for a single thing. I really enjoy the blog and I'd love to keep reading but there's only so much time to check things online and I'd like to get as much done with a single click or two.

If you have a gmail account, click on the link at the top of the page that says "Reader", it allows you to follow any blog on any website, anywhere. You can read them all with one-click then, including mine, anyone on livejournal, wordpress, etc.

Actually Alan, there is a way to set it up so that your BlogSpot automatically updates to Livejournal as well... but it won't be to this journal. There are a lot of nerdfighters who read Maureen Johnson and John Green's blogs here on Livejournal. I can get into more details on skype if you're interested.

so... being the lazy person i am and not liking to check anything off of lj blog-wise, i set up a syndicated feed to import the blogspot entries over to LJ.

http://syndicated.livejournal.com/alandistro/ is the URL and you can add it to your friends list like any other user. to comment, though, you have to go over to the blogspot entry [which you can do by clicking on the link provided in the syndicate post on your flist].

Alan: if you don't want this to be available, let me know and I can take it down. I just find it easier to have everything collected in one spot for reading purposes. [:

I'm sad. :( I'm horrible at reading Blogspot stuff. And personally I feel the comment section of livejournal is the best you can find. You can't reply to specific comments on blogspot. All of them just go in a row. I find it really annoying. Especially if you want to start conversations in them because people don't get mail notifications, and you have to hope they'll check back.

People do know they can reply "annonymously" on Livejournal and sign their name so you know it's them? You don't technically need an openID. And honestly. It's not THAT hard to set up a livejournal. They can follow some others who use the site then too!

Not to mention you can't use awesome icons on Blogspot like you can here on LJ :O

I agree about the comments/community aspect. I hate that the comments on blogspot make it more difficult to reply to specific people and such. You'd think Google would have figured that out by now since they also own YT. Go figure...

I've been moving slowly away from Livejournal for a while now. I still enjoy my friend only journals and will always keep personal stuff here. Though, blogspot is more for public (and third party opportunity) which is what you normally do so it's logical.

:D Plus I've already subscribed to you over there too!

Just read the post on blogspot and am now following you there. Woot! Good kick-off with the eBook series. More on that in the comments there.

So are you going to be keeping more "business" blogs on blogspot and the more personal/light hearted ones here?

Everything is going to be on blogspot from now on, it will be a mix of personal and opinion posts.

I'll be honest in saying that unless you do set up a syndication feed here, I'll never remember to go check your blog. I'm horrible at remembering to read blogs on other sites, but check LJ constantly (and can then just click links whenever there's a new post). Feeds are handy.
