18 days to the Wii! Here's what I have to say.

Nov 01, 2006 22:05

I started writing a post about the console wars, but I realized how whiney I sounded so I didn't post it. Instead, I'm gonna talk about each company. First what they've done right, then what they've done wrong, and last what I think of them. Yes, what I really think ( Read more... )

Obviously you've given this a great deal of thought. ^_^
You're right about Sony. Even though I own a Playstation and a PS2 I won't be buying a PS3 anytime soon, if at all.
I remember when I first heard about Microsoft going game. I thought, "Who are they trying to kid? Okay, we're gamers. That doesn't automatically make us idiots!"
Also I am in total agreement about the graphics thing. Let's face it, there are tons of games out there that are all pretty and no punch. I mean, look at Crono Cross verses Crono Trigger. Yeah Cross had graphics to drool over but when you get the gaming itch, which game would you pick to scratch it with? ^_^
So yeah, I'd trust an old-school gamer girl's opinion over a new-age techno freak's any day! ^__^

I was a late bloomer to all this "gaming" business. I was the ripe old age of about 15 when I got my first (and last) console- SNES. And although I have played on other systems, and read about other consoles and the wars going on, Ren, you're just right. Nintendo is and always has been the best. To my unedumacated sensibilities, Nintendo is gaming.

I loved my SNES. There was a lot you could play on the SNES.

Well, you have to admit that when the PS2 came out, it was great that you could still use the PS1 games on it. The fact that with others you have to use a different console for each thing is VERY annoying ( ... )

It's true that Nintendo was never very reverse compatible, until now. The Wii is capable of playing Gamecube games and for a small fee, downloading N64, SNES, NES, Sega, and other older games. Sony fanboys keep saying that Nintendo is just trying to sell you the same stuff over, but I'm glad that they're doing what they can to be reverse compatible even though the formats have changed.

As for NES games, my family still has tons of them. What do you have? What do you like? Maybe I can hook you up.

For the record, everyone blew on the cartridges. But it didn't actually do anything. It's scientifically impossible that it made a difference. It was just all in our heads.. So don't feel bad.

yeah, I know the famous exhalation didn't, but one looked very savvy doing so.

What do I have... ummm...

Actually, the only ones I never had that I wish I did are mario 2 and 3 (those weren't for SNES were they??) and Zelda. I looooove Zelda games. I bought the 64 just so I could play them. I love the "figure out what you're supposed to do in here" gameplay (although tombraider does have that side effect of wanting to gnaw one's own foot off from frustration... still, there's no annoying fairy barking orders at you... wow, what a long parenthetical phrase!)

the SNES seemed to re-release the old games in the then-new format. I've got one and Mario All-Stars has the first Mario Br.s game on it.
