I'm researching writing prompt books at work today; I haven't seen samples yet, but based on Amazon I think I'm going to recommend The 3am epiphany, both because it has the most evocative title and because it seems to have the most glowing customer reviews ( Read more... )

Well, I love Stephen King, On Writing, Dalton Ross, and Entertainment Weekly. I hope we can still be friends.

Note: I do find his "faux-backwards humble-pie" schtick a wee bit irritating, though. You're Stephen King, NOT my Uncle Stevie.

Ooh, ooh, Strunk & White is possibly the only useful thing we got during CPS 300. Although, I haven't read it, so I can't attest to its usefulness myself, but other people (like you) seem to think it's a good thing.

My writing is perfect! I do not need any help! Go away, Strunk & White! I will not read you!

(Exclamation marks make people reading your writing more excited because then they will notice that you are talking about interesting and exciting things....)

In other news, I'm currently upset at the Duke Athletic Department. I think I will go write an actual post about why....

I'm not a fan of Strunk and White really. There are some nice posts on Language Log by Arnold Zwicky about why they are linguistically bleh.
