The city which I've been looking forward to since the start of my trip. And it didn’t disappoints!! Prague is as beautiful as I imagine it would be. And what makes it sweeter is, my good friend Chris, who been living and working in Luxemburg is joining me. It was great to have some company and boy I miss her so much!! Unlike Berlin, Prague's weather was lovely!!
My 4hrs train ride was pretty bearable; my seat was in one of those carriages, I very much prefer the normal seats actually. Anyways, seating across from me was this old cute old german man, with the newspaper boy hat. I very much want to start a conversation with him but all I could managed was “Guten Morgen". Anyways, I slept mostly during the ride. The old man got off in Dresden and a Russian couple came on board and shared the carriage with me. From the maps and guidebook that they were reading, looks like they were heading to Prague as well.
I got into Prague right about noon time and headed straight to the hotel. The subway in Prague was easy to navigate, pretty much like the MRT. Chris has already arrived from Luxemburg the night before and was meeting me at the hotel. I was so glad the hostel we booked was clean and decent, it looked like a boutique hotel actually. We even got free upgrade. After meeting with Chris at the hotel, we went off for some lunch and shopping. Later that night, we decide to go on the pub crawl but we got so lost looking for the astronomical clock in Old Street, where the meeting point was. We mistook the first clock tower we saw for the astronomical clock tower (we didn’t realized there were so many clock towers) So we spent 30mins walking around new street into old street looking for the right clock, all the time taking direction from Chris, our guide for the pub crawl. He finally figured where we’re and found us infront of TGIF! We were supposed to pay 18 for the tour but since we joined the group pretty late, Chris forgot to take the money from us. They brought us to a few pubs and I was surprised that none of them had any dance floor; I was looking forward to some dancing with Chris. Being the old farts that we were, we decided to call it a night at around 1am and took the tram back to our hostel. Such was our first night in Prague.
On Day 2 we found ourselves seated in a café infront of the astronomical clock and as we were enjoying our hot chocolate, crowd were gathering in front of us. Literally standing infront of our table. Both Chris and me was wondering what is happening here. As the clock strike noon, we got our answer. Every hour, a “skeleton” will come of the clock tower and strike the small bell, that was what they were waiting for. Not only was the astronomical clock bell was ringing but every other clock in Old Street as well! But of coz the astronomical one being the most sought after.
After lunch, we headed to Prague Castle. Parts of the Charles Bridge, which connects the city to the town where the castle is, was undergoing some renovation. But there were still lots of street vendors and buskers along it. Chris bought a very pencil sketching of Charles Bridge from one of the artist. I got myself a handmade fridge magnet. We drank hot wine and ate local bread and walked for hours till it got very dark. I was amazed with its architecture and the gorgeous churches and buildings within the vicinity. Once back in the city, we decide to watch a play at the black light theatre.
We didn’t feel like doing much on Day 3 and since it was Chris last day before she fly back to Luxemburg, we decide to take it easy. Had late breakfast then went to a few malls to do some last minute souvenir shopping. Just before Chris cab took her to the airport, we went to the pub across our hotel and tried the much talk about absinthe. The high alcohol content (usually 75%) kinda “burns” your throat, I had a coughing fit right after drinking it. Ah well .. just one of those things I wanted to try!!
btw ....Happy New Year !!
