So, my first week as Smitty's has gone pretty good. I was a hostess for the first two days, and then immediately started training to serve. Training is kind of annoying, I feel dumb following someone around all day and having them explain to me how toast is made.... but otherwise it's not bad. I worked maybe 50 hours a week last summer - had a full-time job painting during the week and served at Swiss Chalet on Friday-Sunday nights. It wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't hated the painting job. Also, it sucked working every day of the week because it meant I couldn't really go anywhere for the weekend, or anything. But if not for those things, it would have been fine ... didn't have much of a social life but it was nice to be making some money.

I worked 2 jobs all summer- costco and boston pizza. I reccommend, if you're thinking about a 2nd job, one that can work around your schedule. It was too hard in the end to have 2 scheduling employers, and I am, as a result, leaving costco in a week or so. In the end a retail job like that, they require that you put them first, which means you can't have certain days off all the time for the other job. If you can work 2 restaurant type jobs you might be able to make it work, otherwise I recommend putting your music degree to use and getting some students in your off time to make some extra cash, or trying for wedding gigs, that kind of thing. It'll just make your life less of a headache.
