you correctly point out that under taliban rule the crop of opium was less than it is currently, however you negate to mention the fact that it was considered against the tenets of islam, therefore more people shied away from growing it for religious purposes. so obviously after toppling the extremist regime, the cultivation began to spread again. You fail to point out however the anti-opium trade efforts of the allied nations, there are more than two you know, in afghanistan. the u.s. alone puts more that 73million into anti-drug efforts there. furthermore you will not that during taliban rule opium accounted for 12% of afghanistan's GDP, you cannot simply just eradicate that great a portion of a countries GDP with no ill effects, so in essence eliminating the trade slowly and methodically works more effectively. also you will note that during the height of taliban rule the maximum output of opium was 4.6million tonnes. way more than the figures you stated ( ... )
