Heya, Alastair.
I'm going to be in Auckland for a couple of weeks starting next Saturday. Would you like to catch up at all?

Puzzle Pirates is all kinds of awesome. My husband played it from the beginning, and even bought the lifetime "we need capital if this thing is ever getting off the ground" subscription back in the day. He never had any trouble logging in, so I can't help you there. It may just be having server issues, if it got a sudden surge of new people. I don't know what sort of hardware they're currently using, but they started out with just a couple guys with an idea and a computer. I imagine they upgrade as necessary, and as they can afford it. Also, they're based in the U.S., so your connectivity problems may just be because you're about as far away from San Francisco as you can get while remaining on the planet. I ran this theory by my husband, and he says it's likely. Keep trying. It'll be worth it. :)

Sorted, and I am happily sailing the Cobalt blue ocean. Well, when I say "sailing" what I mean is I'm pumping out the bilges. It seems to be my forte, possibly due to too many hours spent playing Bejewelled 2.

Nah, NZ's antipodean point is in Spain.
Someone did a tool recently to help you work this out, but according to my atlas, you want St Paul Is, in the Southern Indian Ocean. Most extreme point from San Fran with real internet is probably Diego Garcia.
