I love a good soundtrack. I wasn't terribly impressed with the ST one at first because it didn't have enough of the fanfare in it -- and also because Michael Giacchino is crap at naming his tracks ("Nice to Meld You"? Really?) -- but it's grown on me. I like the new fanfare, though I really think more should have been done with the old fanfare.

A good soundtrack really can make or break a movie, or even a mood. My wife HATES Eyes Wide Shut primarily because of the discordant-ness of the soundtrack. Primer has a good minimalist soundtrack. Final Fantasy -- especially 7 and 10 -- wouldn't be nearly as great without the soundtrack (the scene in 10 where Yuna jumps off the temple would've sucked without the perfect music). HP4's was awesome, HP5's not so much.

But the best soundtrack I've heard in a long time is that of Stardust. I heard it and instantly purchased it -- like, paused the movie to order it on iTunes.

The use of music and sound tracks is something I've been paying more attention to recently. Don't get me wrong I've always listened to the soundtracks and I have bought loads over the years. I mean more of the stuff you are talking about, the less obvious impacts of use ( ... )
