Philosophy (Rant)

Philosophy annoys me. It's a prejudice built mostly on the perception that philosophers consider things which are either unnecessary or obvious; and then feel pleased that they come up with an answer. And you can get a degree in philosophy...for writing those answers down.

Would you mind putting this under an LJ cut to save F-Page space, dearie? This isn't philosophy, it's just courtesy. :)

Too many what ifs. What if the world is just like the Matrix, and what if the Matrix belongs to yet a larger Matrix and so on to infinity? What if the universe consists of nothing but stable equations for every scrap of matter and space and the only thing keeping the equations stable is a giant Markovian computer-brain without whom nothing would exist? What if the universe is just a big giant marble on a humongous Orion's belt, one of many universes kept in a giant's Bag of Holding?

Who cares? People who pose these so-called philosophical questions to others are just sadistic assholes who enjoy seeing other people squirm. John Flanagan for example.

Oh, yes...lj-cuts....forgotten about those. :)

Re: Matrix and Giant Bag of Holding (+1), I assume that's rhetorical. I could, of course, consider the possibility of a Bag of Holding but that would get quickly into the realms of paradox and infinity.

I think people who pose these questions can't think of the answers and are therefore either less intelligent than those who have the answers and therefore have no need to pose the questions, or less wise than those who know enough to keep their traps shut.
