Dropped a 50lb stage weight on my thumb today. Scraped some skin off and got a fairly big bruise, which wasn't too bad. Also cracked the nail, which is worse 'cause aside from sending major pain signals every time I shift/touch the thumb the wrong way it doesn't seem to want to stop bleeding. It's been going at a slow-but-steady trickle since

The nail is probably going to turn black and blue and eventually fall off. Just a forewarning. Did the same thing to my middle finger nail when I was like 7 and playing skiball.

Yeah, I had something similar happen to a toenail years ago, so I've got a good idea of what to expect. Still a pain in the ass, though.
