Happy slightly belated birthday to my sister, who turned 22 yesterday. I did not post this yesterday because my gift to her was babysitting so she and her fiance could have a real meal at a restaurant and then a solo night shift so she could sleep by herself in her own bed while her fiance worked the 12am-8am shift ( Read more... )

Does this mean your sister is relocating to whatever tropical location you'll be in when you procreate?

It's different since I don't have kids and it matched up perfectly with our move. I'm sure she'll come out for a week or something, but she'd have a toddler whereas I just have the Monkey Husband, who can feed himself (and usually feeds me).

Yeah, I know, totally different scenarios. My parents lived down the street from my grandparents when I was born. My parents plan to "retire" in DC, and I informed my mother that they will not be rewarded with grandchildren until they move. My mother snorted, and then I reminded her how much time I spent with my grandparents before I started kindergarten . . . part of it was facetious on my part, but the other part of me knows how close I was to my grandparents and how much I want my potential kidlets to have that closeness. Also, daycare is expensive (though socialization is important). Will work for me, not necessarily for everyone . . .

Yeah if she were in a position to leave them both I'm sure she'd try. Also, we have the government paying my travel bill out to Hawaii, and she will not. Hard for a small, young family to come up with the bank for a Boston-Honolulu run.

It will be weird for me, having grown up at The Family Compound, but I also like the idea of not having ANY conflicting family opinions and ass-vice unless I call to solicit it. :)
