"Alright? I'm Charlotte." She stretches out her hand for him to shake and looks at him politely under the brim of her hat.
"Oh, uh hi. I'm Daniel Faraday. I uh- one moment please." He stumbles with his suitcase and bags, at first appearing to go for her hand before changing his mind and digging into a backpack with hasty movements. Charlotte smiles with a light frown as he brings out a leather bound journal. Some more fumbling around until he finds a pen and then looks around for a surface. She hops from one foot to the other, sweating in the heat.
"You can use my back if you need to."
He freezes, dark eyes wide before he shakes his head, smiling. "No, no it's alright. I'll - just- just use..." he gets on his hunches and opens the journal. The white pages shines brilliantly in the sun and she looks away, turning to the ship that waits for them.
"What was your name again? Sorry."
He's staring up at her and she had the feeling he had been for some time. "Charlotte Staples Lewis." He quickly writes it down, repeating it to himself over and over.
"Thanks. So...better get going."
"Yup. I'll help you. For a skinny bloke you've got a lot of luggage." He laughs quietly as she shoulders some and takes his journal as he picks up the rest. When he's not looking she pulls out the book marker halfway to see the page he had used. One half of the page was scrawled with equations, grids and music notes while the other had little drawings of the crew along with their names. Squeezed into the corner and under her name was a little drawing of her with a tiny description:
British, pale. Pretty red hair.
Charlotte smiles, strangely touched and quickly closes the journal as the little man lugs his bags onto the boat, looking back to make sure she was following.
