[An evening stroll for some fresh air outside the apartment reveals something a little bit different than what was expected, for Noelle. Lights, lights everywhere. On the trees, on the houses... it's like the village was suddenly lit up with several thousand fonstone lamps, like part of the Fon Belt itself had come down to illuminate the buildings ( Read more... )

...So that's what's going on. It wouldn't be the first time...this sort of thing started with decorating. Ugh.

[It sounds like someone is going to need a bit of the Christmas cheer in the air soon, because she doesn't sound exactly thrilled. She did not enjoy 2010's Halloween.]

Something like this has happened before?

[Still a bit on the New Feather side of things, really.]

A little like it. [How to put this when she barely understands what Halloween is?]

It was -- I mean, it started with a different kind of decorations, like...like some kind of childish attempt to be creepy. Well, some of it wasn't so much decorations as changing what all the houses looked like into something that was trying too hard to be spooky. [Sort of a Nightmare Before Christmas kind of cutesy-creepy, but Earth pop culture references are pretty hard for a luddite from another world.] But they had decorations like pumpkins with faces carved into them. And people got forced into costumes....

[She shakes her head.] Maybe it's not really the same thing, but...it was for a holiday, too. And it didn't stop with decorations. Things were...bad.

I'm not quite sure myself. [ a pause, then. ] ... They're kind of nice to look at.

Yes, it certainly makes things a lot warmer and brighter.

[Both literally and figuratively.]

They don't seem to do anything. Maybe they are just lights.

I hope they are, especially since holiday season is approaching. [ He can't imagine what they could do... not that it had to make logical sense. ] I might keep an eye on them just in case.

I'm pretty sure they're lights to celebrate the holidays.

So I've been hearing.

I have to say this is the first time I've seen this sort of thing. [The lights. They have a sort of midwinter holiday on Auldrant, though.]

I celebrated Christmas back home, but I never saw lights like this.

It's weird, but kinda nice, too.

I noticed them too. It looks like they've gone up all over the village.

From what I've heard, there supposed to be in celebration of a winter holiday on one of the other worlds.

[And now onto the technical aspects]

There doesn't seem to be any power source, or anything holding the in place either. They're just... there.

"Christmas" I think it was. There was another holiday called "Thanksgiving" just a little while ago, too.

[Hmn...] No power and no cables... Could the lights be their own energy source?

They might be, but it would seem to be a mild one in comparison to the past. ...We might as well enjoy them.

Well, that's good. The one that we had was... not too bad I suppose, but...

[Uncomfortable reminders of certain things. Like the Score. Predictions that had to be followed.]

They are very pretty.
