Jun 14, 2010 11:16

Here are the explanations/meanings behind my journal names.

.hack//SIGN
Macha | twilights_cat
"Twilight's Cat" is in reference to Macha's position as one of the 8 phases, as well as having a cat form. Thanks to Matt for the name suggestion.

Bleach
Hinamori Momo | 5th_l_tobiume
"5th Lieutenant Tobiume" is in reference both to Hinamori's position within the 13 Court Squads (Lieutenant of the 5th Squad) as well as the name of her zanpakutou (Tobiume).

Chrome Shelled Regios
Nina Antalk | 17th_platoon
"17th Platoon" is in reference to her being the captain of the 17th platoon in Zelni.

CLAMP
CLAMP School Defenders: Duklyon
Chuusonji Erii | uchuufukei
"Uchuu Fukei" is bad Japanese, but "uchuu" is "universe/cosmos/space" and "fukei" is "prefectural police", so basically it's supposed to be "space cop".

xxxHOLiC
Mokona=Larg=Modoki | martini_manjuu
"Martini Manjuu" is in reference to Mokona's love of booze, and being called a 'manjuu'. It was between that and "booze_bunny", and both ideas evolved out of the somarium IRC chat.

La Corda d'Oro
Hihara Kazuki | genki_trumpet
"Genki Trumpet" is a reference to Kazuki's instrument, as well as the fact that he's very energetic.

Criminal Minds
Penelope Garcia | tech_oracle
"Tech Oracle" is a reference to Garcia being their tech, and referring to herself as the "Oracle of Quantico". Nueva came up with this one for me.

Digimon
Digimon Savers
Daimon Masaru and Agumon | meshi_meshi
"Meshi Meshi" would be a common request from guys for food, and Masaru and Agumon are often eating. Note that this was formerly Goku from Saiyuki's journal, and Goku and Masaru share a Japanese voice.

ElfQuest
Skywise | wolf_stargazer
"Wolf Stargazer" is in reference to Skywise being part wolf (as a Wolfrider) and the stargazer among the elves.

Fullmetal Alchemist
Riza Hawkeye | mame_juu
"Mame Juu" is more bad Japanese. "Mame" is "faithful/loyal/devoted" and "juu" is the on-yomi reading of the kanji for "gun". So it's supposed to be "Loyal Gun".

Gakuen Alice
Sakura Mikan | nullnotdull
"Null not Dull" came from Pan. Mikan's power (at least to start with) is to Null things, and she often acts rather dull.

Gensomaden Saiyuki
Son Goku | [no journal]
As noted under Masaru's journal (see: Digimon Savers), Masaru's journal used to be Goku's. And yes, "meshi meshi!" is something Goku often calls out.

Hakuryuu/Jeep | jeeptothewest
"Jeep to the West" is a reference to Hakuryuu being part-Jeep, and he's their transportation on their journey to the west (as well as a pun on the title).

Getbackers
Amano Ginji | chibi_raitei
"Chibi Raitei" is a reference to both Ginji's other form, Raitei, as well as his constant "chibifying" that he does.

Fuchouin Kazuki | fuchouin_kazuki
"Fuchouin Kazuki" is one of my first journals, and is simply Kazuki's name.

Harukanaru Toki no Naka de
Eisen | hachiyou_eisen
"Hachiyou Eisen" is another of my first journals, and is Eisen's title.

Jeff Dunham Show
Achmed the Dead Terrorist | silence_ikillu
"Silence, I KILL You" is obviously Achmed's signature line. In retrospect, I should have used "keel" instead of "kill", but I didn't think of it.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
Luka Millfy / Gokai Yellow | gokaiger_yellow
"Gokaiger Yellow" technically should be "Gokai Yellow," but a) I didn't think of it when I made the journal, and b) "gokai_yellow" was already taken.

Luka Millfy / Gokai Yellow | lets_treasure
"Let's Treasure" is in reference to Luka's job as treasure hunter for the team. It also matches the other journals we're planning on for srwug_alpha_rp.

Luka Millfy | slacker_yellow
"Slacker Yellow" is an AU journal, where all of the Gokaiger are normal high school students. Luka, obviously, is a slacker, and the yellow for her Gokaiger color. We also have "Delinquent Red" and "Nerdy Green" in our AU group.

Kamen Rider
Kamen Rider Den-O
Deneb | facejustdecor
"Face Just Decor" is in reference to Deneb's version of Zeronos' catchphrase, which is "Let me say this to start... the face on my chest is just for decoration."

Kamen Rider W
COW HAND | cow_hand
"Cow Hand." It's a hand. That's a cow. Do I really need to explain further?

Philip / W (right side) | rightcyclone
"Right Cyclone" is in reference to Philip being the right side of W, as well as Cyclone being his "default" Memory. It also matches Camiu's leftjoker for srwug_alpha_rp.

Philip / W (right side) | wikiwalking
"Wiki-walking" is a trope that is basically when you get lost on Wikipedia or other similar sites. You start at one place, and then you click a link that looks interesting, and then you click another link that looks interesting, and then you-- you get the picture. If you don't see how this fits Philip, you have obviously never watched KRW.

KIBA
Roya | taiyoufuu
"Taiyoufuu" is Japanese for "Solar Wind," which is the name of the second ending to KIBA. The ending video for the song almost solely features Roya.

Kingdom of Loathing
Female Adventurer [Sauceror] | adventurerisyou
"Adventurer is You" is in reference to the catchphrase of Kingdom of Loathing. And Matt has the matching adventurerisme journal.

L/R: Licensed by Royalty
Noelle Adelaide | 15year_princess
"15-Year Princess" is a reference to Noelle's position as the long-lost "15-year princess" of the series.

The Lightbringer Series
Karris White Oak | lady_blackguard
"Lady Blackguard" is a reference to the fact that Karris is both a Lady and a member of the blackguard.

My Otome
Arika Yumemiya | crystal_energy
"Crystal Energy" is the name of the second opening to the My Otome anime.

Naruto
Yakushi Kabuto | tsukau_nin
"Tsukau Nin" is yet more bad Japanese. "Tsukau" means "to use" and "nin" is short for "ninja". It's meant to mean "Ninja who uses [others]", but it's nowhere close.

Nyanpire
Nyanpire | nekopire
"Nekopire" is a neko (cat) vampire. Which Nyanpire is. Also, "nyanpire" was already taken.

Ojamajo Doremi
Segawa Onpu | murasaki_mahou
"Murasaki Mahou" is actually NOT bad Japanese. "Murasaki" is "purple", and "mahou" is "magic", refering to the fact that Onpu is the purple Ojamajo (it was actually supposed to be "murasaki_majou", which would be "purple witch", but I typo'd when I made it).

Peter Pan
The Wendy Trilogy
Admiral Wendy Moria Angela Darling | pir8qfeyadmiral
"Pirate Queen, Fey Admiral" is a reference to Wendy's position by the end of The Wendy Trilogy. Because of the 15-character limit, "pir8" is meant to be read aloud as "pirate".

Pocket Monsters
Togepi | eggdorable
"Eggdorable" is a play on words, combining "adorable" and "egg".

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
Aino Minako | cest_la_venus
"C'est la Venus" is a reference both to Minako's song, "C'est la Vie", as well as her identity as Sailor Venus ("C'est la Venus" would be pronounced as "Sey la Venus", and in Japanese would be identical to "Sailor Venus").

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Elizabeth Bennet | bennet_beheader
"Bennet Beheader" is a reference to Elizabeth's name and job. Credit for the name goes to Meygan.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
Aruji Tadashi (MC) | abel2bking
"Abel to be King" is a pun on the MC being the reincarnation of Abel (Abel/able).

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Narukami Yu (MC) | yu_narukami
"Yu Narukami" (Western name order) is the name the anime gave to the Persona 4 MC. Since it was announced on the day I started the playthrough/LP, I figured it was appropriate. I also named him that in-game.

Shining Tears
Blanc Neige | glace_sorciere
"Glace Sorciere" is in reference to Neige's chosen profession. "Glace" is French for "ice", and "sorciere" is French for "sorcerer", so it's "Ice Sorceress" in French, reflecting her French name ("Blanc Neige" is "white snow", or, more likely intended "Snow White"). somarium IRC helped me find the French.

SMP Films
Sparta | the_mean_kitty
"The Mean Kitty" is obviously the name of the original video Sparta stared in, as well as the Youtube channel.

Suikoden
Suikoden II
Luc | kaze_no_tenkan
"Kaze no Tenkan" is a reference both to Luc's Rune and his position in the Stars of Destiny. "Kaze" is Japanese for "wind", and Tenkan is Luc's Star on the Tablets. So "Kaze no Tenkan" is "Tenkan of Wind".

Suikoden V
Miakis | lyms_knight
"Lym's Knight" is a reference to Miakis being Lym[sleia]'s personal knight/bodyguard.

Tales of
Tales of the Abyss
Asch the Bloody | ashes_of_flame
"Ashes of Flame" is a play on Asch's names. "Luke" was "Light of the Sacred Flame", and "Asch" (pronounced "ash" and an alternate spelling for it) is in reference to "what was left behind" of the flame. So Asch is the "Ashes of" the Sacred "Flame".

Guy Cecil | flower_of_glory
Guy Cecil (Semi AU) | eiga_no_hana
"Eiga no Hana" was the original journal, and "Flower of Glory" came after it, but both mean the same thing. The kanji for "Eiga no Hana" is "栄華の花". "栄華" (eiga) translates to "glory, splendor, majesty, luxury". Guy's homeland, "Hod", is named after the Sephirot located there, which is in turn named after the sephira of the Kabbalistic Sephirot. "הוד" (Hod) in Hebrew translates as "majesty and splendor", matching the meaning of "栄華" (eiga). "花" (hana) is "flower" in Japanese, and Guy's full name, Gailardia (gaillardia), is a type of flower. So, when translated into English, "栄華の花" (eiga no hana) can mean "flower of glory" (the second journal), but it can also mean "Gailardia of Hod". I liked the double meaning. [As a side note, "glory" is indeed the best translation, as it is not only the first definition of each word, but also in the game, "Vandesdelca" in Ancient Ispanian means "One who would seize glory", which was also likely a reference to the island of Hod.]

Guy Cecil / Gailardia Galan Gardios (AU) | raisedinmalkuth
"Raised in Malkuth" is a reference to the fact that in this AU, Guy never went to Kimlasca, and stayed in Malkuth.

Guy Sheshil (Kindergarten Chibi AU) | chibi_fontaku
"Chibi Fontaku" is a reference to the fact that Guy is now a 5-year-old, as well as being a "fontaku" (combination of "fonon" from "fon-machine" and "otaku").

Mieu | butazaru
"Butazaru" is what Luke calls Mieu in the Japanese version (the English version uses "Thing").

Team Knight Rider
Kevin "Trek" Sanders | conceivedatcon
"Conceived at Con" is a reference to where Trek's nickname came from. According to canon, his parents were both geeks who literally did conceive him at a Star Trek convention.

Uglies
Aya Fuse | kicktobefamous
"Kick to be Famous" is a reference to the fact that Aya is a Kicker, and she's doing it to raise her face-rank (i.e. to get famous).

Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru
Giou Yuki | kami_no_hikari
"Kami no Hikari" is Japanese for "God's Light," which is not only what Yuki's power is, but also what he is referred to by many of the characters.

Murasame Tōko | zweilt_eon
"Zweilt Eon" is two-fold. "Zweilt" is because she's one of the Zweilt Guardians, and "Eon" is the name of her weapon.

Valorous Kingdoms
Cosima Liridon | refusedtowed
"Refused to Wed" is because Cosima ran away from her country, partially due to an arranged marriage (that neither part wanted). Of course, Foxfire points out that it can also be misread as "refused towel", so we'll figure out some way to throw towel jokes in.

Weiß Kreuz
Takatori Mamoru/Tsukiyono Omi | b0mb4y_n3k0
"b0mb4y_n3k0" is a "l33t" version of "Bombay Neko". "Bombay" is Omi's codename, and "neko" is Japanese for cat. So it's "bombay cat", referring to the fact that all of Weiß's codenames are cat breeds.

Takatori Mamoru/Tsukiyono Omi | takatori_heir
"Takatori Heir" was originally a Mamoru-specific journal, and just names who he is, he's the heir of the Takatori family.

Tsukiyono Omi (AU X-over) | profilingkitten
"Profiling Kitten" is another reference to Weiß being given cat codenames, and also his AU position of being a BAU profiler. [crossover with Criminal Minds]

'Hansel' (Tsukiyono Omi; AU X-over) | freesiaofblood
"Freesia of Blood" is a reference to his image flower (freesia), and the fact that he's a vampire, and needs blood. I originally wanted "Freesia of the Night", but it was too long.

Xenogears
Citan Uzuki | doc_uzuki
"Doc Uzuki" is simply a reference to Citan's job, as he's the local doctor for Fei's village (Fei often calls him "Doc"), and Uzuki is his last name.

Xenosaga
Albedo Piazora | white_testament
"White Testament" is in reference to what Albedo becomes at the end of Episode II.

chaos | chaos_yeshua
"chaos Yeshua" is in reference to both of chaos' names.

chaos | mysteryboychaos
"Mystery Boy chaos" is actually a joke from the Shaman King Uncensored forums and the crack RPs that would pop up. Lovely, both IC (seriously) and OOC (jokingly), would call chaos "Mystery Boy", and I named the journal for her.

Yami no Matsuei
Kurosaki Hisoka | empathic_kitty
"Empathic Kitty" is a reference to Hisoka's abilities as well as the fact that he's often drawn as a cat (and can be as temperamental as one as well). Originally, his journal name was made to match the Tsuzuki in the game, who's journal was "tsuzu_puppy".

Zoids /0
Rinon (Leena) Torosu | sniper_luver
"Sniper Luver" is in reference to Rinon loving Snipers, and I felt "luver" was more suiting to her personality.
