4th Edition D&D - Rant the Third: The Dungeon Master's Guide

The DMG has some good advice to give DMs, though much of the first chapter or so is more or less copy/pasted from 3e (the 'player types', etc).  The bit on DM style I found interesting, though not really from the standpoint that was intended - I would give that list, as a DM, to my players to find out what they wanted out of a campaign.  However, ( Read more... )

As far as I'm concerned, WotC can only be trusted with world- and setting-building tools.

Given that most of their worlds actually came from other companies (esp. Paizo Publishing and, of course, TSR, not to mention smaller guys like Mongoose Publishing, Green Ronin and Chaosium, Inc.), even that statement is suspect. Never mind the fact that when WotC did release good building tools, they were spread between $400 worth of different books and pamphlets.
