Drake had a vet appointment today.  I asked if I should be going along and my mother pretty much bulldozed and said 'no', because according to Bob 'nothing would be happening'.

Except, y'know.

They put him down.

It's not unexpected, but it's exactly what I was afraid of.  I didn't think he'd come back from another vet visit, but the Bastard said that ( Read more... )

It could be markedly worse.

I have a (now former) friend who was in the same position with her dog. Same thing happen; dog was put down without her being let along to say final goodbyes. But at least Drake was put to sleep by a vet and was allowed to keep some of his dignity.

Pepper was taken out to the hills and shot. Because that's "how they did it on the farm".

I have no idea what it is, but in some people, I see an interesting relationship between their seeming total disregard for animals, and their need to control everything around them, including family members.

I'm so sorry about your dog, honey. I know what that feels like. My thoughts are with you.

You're a much bigger person than I am; if somebody had done this my dog, I don't think I'd ever be able to look him or her in the eye again, never mind continue to live with them.

I wish there was some way you could get out of the situation that you're in -- you and your animals deserve so much better.

My hope for the human population dwindles with every passing second, I swear. As the pet owner/family member, you should've been told of this. No way around it.

My sympathies for your loss and the utter stupidity of others.

I can't wait to help you get out of there.

I'm so sorry, hon. Drake was such a sweetheart.

I love you.♥
