Facts list

Thirty about Ed, twenty-six about Al. I tried to get thirty about Al, and I'm sure he'll tell me more later, but I've been working on this list for about two hours now. XD;

Facts about Edward Elric
  1. Despite being 24 now, Edward is still no taller than 5'4".

  2. His uncle teases him mercilessly for this.

  3. Edward is considered by the rest of his family to be the center and head of the family- someone is only considered part of the family if he says so, which created problems between him and Anna early on, because she saw someone worth saving in Envy, and Ed wanted Envy dead out of fear.

  4. Edward practically lives at the New York City Library- yes, the one seen in Ghostbusters. What he doesn't buy and scan to data CDs, he borrows from there and scans to data CDs.

  5. It was a misshelved book at the library that got him into the career he's in now- criminal psychology.

  6. Besides an interest in the subject, the main reason Ed went into the field as a career was to keep a connection to his aunt and uncle; after a few years, Mooj, along with a number of other galactical empires, was in need of a non-affiliated investigation group, which Roy, Riza, and their crew (along with Anna) volunteered for. Nobody in the group had the knowledge in the field of criminal profiling that Ed did though, and the skill was useful, so Ed does jobs freelance for them. Ed had been afraid that because Roy and Riza's work was in space and communication would be less than it had been when they lived with the boys and Hohenheim, that they would drift and the family would be broken apart.

  7. Ed's a little neurotically possessive of his family.

  8. Edward entered the FBI academy at the age of 18 and finished just last year. He only worked for the FBI a few months, but he still does jobs for the government when he's not busy helping his uncle or doing temporal work with Mooj and the Gate.

  9. Ed learned some downright scary skills after the Gate possessed him, some of which he'll never use, some of which people only wish he wouldn't use.

  10. Among those skills is how to create a human soul. The cost is far too high as long as he's alive, however, and the only person he'd ever use it for is Al.

  11. Another of the 'interesting skills' that Ed has learned since becoming the Gatekeeper is the ability to 'teleport' by creating wormholes of sorts- he manipulates the underlying Order/Chaos balance of nature to open a path from one place to another and close it again. He learned this by mimicking a magical method of teleportation that drew more on the Chaos energies. Ed's method pulls more on the Order energies.

  12. Ed, unfortunately, learned to mimic the Levitation and Dragon Slave spells from Lina Inverse's world. The Levitation transmutation was a simple matter of altering the density of the air immediatel above and below him, creating a sort of air bubble he could float on.

  13. His first attempt at this transmutation ended up with him stuck to the ceiling.

  14. The Dragon Slave transmtuation he figured out was an energy transmutation. He's only ever used it once, and it nearly killed him for how much energy it drew. If not for the Gate, he probably would've died. He refuses to use it ever again without the use of a red stone unless it's to save Al's life.

  15. Edward, like his counterpart- superman_dead -is lactose intolerant. Unlike the other Edward though, this one has discovered chocolate soy milk.

  16. Edward can sing, very beautifully, and has used mathematics to actually compose exactly one song, which he sang and recorded using his brother's laptop (which is light years ahead of anything on earth, even earth in 2064) and sent it to both Al and Anna. Nobody else has ever heard this song.

  17. Ed calls Al his Earendil, because of the LOTR movies and books, both of which are popular in the family. Al, however, prefers a different comparison for them.

  18. Their first Christmas on Earth came almost immediately after they returned from Amestris; the holiday is easily the family's favorite now.

  19. That Christmas, Ed had gotten his uncle an umbrella with an attached note- "For when it rains." He'd gotten his father a replica of a certain qwill pen, and his brother, he'd gone back to Amestris to retrieve something the boys had carved when they were very little- "a little piece of the Shire."

  20. Edward wears a necklace at all times, a simple chain that has two pendants on it. One pendant is 363 years old, the other is only eight years old. The older one is a locket that his elder brother had made for Dante's birthday one year- the outside has the array for the Philosopher's Stone with inlaid cinnabar, and inside is the boy's first baby tooth. Hohenheim had given it to him when they first met back up back in Amestris when Hohenheim caught Ed digging up Trisha's grave. The other pendant was a gift from Al.

  21. Despite relations being smoothed between Ed and Envy, Ed refuses to get rid of the locket, not because it can be used against Envy, but because he understands what it cost his father to be able to hand it over to him. To him, it's more of a symbol of understanding between himself and Hohenheim.

  22. For Al's 15th birthday, Ed had Sue, a telepath and artist, along with Colin, Anna's husband and a genius engineer, build a small projection device with an image of Trisha and a recording of her voice.

  23. In his dreams, Ed gets glimpses of alternate timelines that are connected to the Gate; many of these timelines are places where things have gone horribly wrong in ways he wouldn't think of on his own. Because of this, Edward can be very tactile-oriented and 'clingy' with his brother, refusing to ever take the boy for granted.

  24. Ed was given use of both dining rooms in the Queens duplex for use as a personal library his first Christmas there. Ed has since filled all the shelves, transferred the books to data CD, refilled, and repeated the cycle about three or four times since then.

  25. The second bedroom on Ed and Al's side of the duplex (Riza and Roy shared a room on the other side, and the second bedroom over there was Hohenheim's) is Ed's study, and has a small daybed in it for naps. On the daybed is a quilt Anna made for Ed's 16th birthday.

  26. Ed is asexual, proud of it, and thinks any and all of his alternates that get involved with anyone are nuts. He has his family, he's happy with that.

  27. Ed, like his other Nexus countpart this mun plays, can speak a variety of languages, though some of the languages differ. Everyone in the Summers family is made to learn Spanish, because there's no other language outside of Earth like it, so Ed is fluent in that, as well as English (his accent, for the record, has become a very generic American accent after so many years living in New York). He can speak German because of Alfons Heiderich, who was brought to their time so the technology available to the Corsican Empire could save his life as a return favor for an alternate of Edward's who helped the family out. He also knows Japanese because of Setsuna, Kira and Hitomi, along with the French/Greek language that the mun calls 'Freek' to pick on him.

  28. As an 'elder god', Ed is capable of performing a soul transmutation to create a soulbond, meaning he binds the souls of two people together. Under the conditions of a soulbond, the two are effectively immortal- their aging stops and the only way to kill one is to kill them both. As long as one is alive, the other's body can be mended and their soul will return to it.

  29. The only true soulbonding he's ever been called on to perform was his aunt and uncle.

  30. After figuring out he could force equivalent exchanges from the Gate for accepting the role it gave him, Edward bound Al's soul to his own, not in a true soulbond, but under conditions- Ed demanded that the Gate would not allow one to die without the other, and not until they were ready.

Facts about Alphonse Elric
  1. Alphonse is now a high school chemistry teacher in a school in one of the rougher parts of Queens. He got his GED before his sixteenth birthday and was taking the necessary college courses to get his teaching certificate by the time he was seventeen.

  2. He got the teaching position just after he turned 19- the school was the same one Shara Sparda worked at as a literature teacher, and she helped him get the job, despite his young age.

  3. Alphonse has studied to be a hacker under his sister's husband, who is considered within the top five best hackers in the entire galaxy. If Alphonse had a longer lifespan than a normal human's, it entirely possible and very likely he'd attain the number one position.

  4. Alphonse started his career as a hacker by committing a felony and breaking into old police records on a cold case involving the death of a child that the family was investigating. This case was what secured Ed's interest in criminal profiling and Roy's interest in an investigative career.

  5. When he turned 18, Al had a brainjack installed at the base of his skull that allows him to hook his brain directly into a computer's systems. Most of the Extended Summers Family doesn't know about the jack, but the immediate family does.

  6. Only a couple of his students have ever seen the brainjack, or rather, the cord leading from the computer to the back of his head, and the typical reaction is to wig out a bit. The technology to do that is Corsican, and is light years ahead of what's available on earth.

  7. Al is hugely popular with his students, and well-respected, and the few that don't know to cross him learn quickly why students that normally would think nothing of causing fights, acting up and mouthing off to the teacher, or even threatening or bringing weapons into the classroom (we're talking the ghetto here) do not attempt to do any of that around him. Most students that go through his classroom leave with their acts straightened enough for there to be hope in their futures again, which is why Al went into the job in the first place.

  8. Al is extremely friendly and casual with his students. While he insists they address him as Mister Elric (or just Mister E, if they really think they have to, which many do) around other teachers or school officials (Shara excepting), he encourages them to call him by his first name in the privacy of the classroom or if they run into him outside of school.

  9. Al has recruited Ed a number of times in helping a particularly troubled student get their act cleaned up. Al employs compassion and understand and steadfast patience; Ed uses a bit more of a fear tactic, making him the proverbial 'bad cop'.

  10. While Ed was away at academy, much to Al's annoyance, Envy would amuse himself by disguising himself as a student and showing up at Al's class and making a pest of himself. Al would kick his ass after school for it and then go home and send Ed an email, demanding he come back and take their eldest brother off his hands. Ed would send emails back that simply laughed at him.

  11. Their first Christmas, Al recieved a working replica of Earendil from their sister. It lights up only when he touches it, reacting to his unique body chemistry.

  12. Their first Christmas, Al gave Ed the other pendant he wears- an eight-pointed star that has the words "The shape of love" carved into the back of it.

  13. While Ed calls him Earendil, Al fancies that they are more Sam and Frodo.

  14. Al has a kitten- or rather, a cat by now- named Earendil that Anna got him when he first was restored to his own body and the shock had repressed his memories temporarily. (Ed loves that cat almost more than Al does, though he doesn't let on.)

  15. Since Roy and Riza (and Hayate) moved out, Al has begun using the duplex as a sort of no-kill cat shelter; his students have brought stray kittens they've found to him in school for him to get medical care for and then find homes for. The house currently has about a dozen cats running about.

  16. As much as Al loves his family, with the number of high-maintanence older siblings he has (Ed and Envy and Anna), Al sometimes finds himself popping advil like skittles. Fortunately, Setsuna is, despite being Setsuna, fairly low maintanence.

  17. Because of the deal Ed made with the Gate, Al is a bit of a secondary Gatekeeper (he's hesitant to joke that he's the Keymaster, given the extremely sexual nature of the two roles in the Ghostbusters movie), and once he and Ed die, they'll exist by the Gate much like the figure in the manga does. Neither brother is really looking forward to that.

  18. Al calls Ed 'Brother' and Envy 'Big Brother'. He used to call Setsuna 'Big Brother' on occasion, before Envy had been part of the family long enough for Al to be willing to address him as such. Ever since then, the name is as exclusively Envy's as 'Brother' is Ed's.

  19. Al got a tattoo of the bloodseal on the back of his neck after he turned seventeen.

  20. Much to Ed's annoyance, Al is about six foot tall.

  21. Occasionally, Al will engage in a friendly sort of picture competition with Hughes, combatting pictures of Elysia with pictures of Earendil. His favorite pictures are from when Earendil was a kitten and Hayate would let her ride on his back.

  22. Al's favorite ice cream is peppermint.

  23. Much to everyone's amused horror, because of the students he has, Al is fluent in 'street speak', though he's only ever used it to weird out his family.

  24. Despite being the quietest and the gentlest one in the family, Al is the most dangerous by far (with the exception of Ed when the Gate gets pissed off enough to make a direct appearance), and the one the family knows to be most afraid of when he gets angry. He's the only one that can make his brother stop being stubborn about something and submit if he's upset enough about something Ed's doing.

  25. Al's dated before, including a girl who's honest-to-God name was Mary Sue, but he's decided he's a bachelor for life, preferring to stick with his brother because he knows that above everything, his brother needs him, and what Ed needs, Al is more than happy to give.

  26. Despite the fact they're both in their twenties, Al still shares a bed with his brother, and figures he will until the day they die. Ed doesn't sleep particularly well alone- he's haunted by nightmares, both from his memories and from the Gate, and the only thing that calms him is another presence, particularly Al's. Al's comfortable being there for him the rest of their lives.
