Couldn't help notice this question was duplicated on welovegeeks, but I'll answer it here; since here is where my browser happens to be pointed. Linux is just the kernel of an operating system and by definition; a kernel has no user interface. To have a user interface a shell is wrapped around the kernel. To make the shell do anything useful, one must have applications to run from the shell
