I'm so not going to SFSU for a creative writing program (MFA). I refuse to go back to that. I'd rather join the Counseling department. Let me settle my goals here ( Read more... )

Why not just bypass the associate's degrees and go straight for the bachelor's? Also, do you really need all those bachelor's? It might be easier -- and certainly cheaper -- to just pick one.

I kind of feel I need more than one degree because a BA is useless in this world that's fueled by Masters and Ph.D.s more than it is by a BA. Many people are underemployed.

I can see going for a master's and/or doctorate, but it seems like a waste of time to have so many BAs and BSs. And once you have a BA, it really doesn't make sense to go back and do so many associate's. That doesn't show employers that you have a good knowledge base. It shows them that you're very good at going to class for a long time.

Yeah, I know but then again, what if it proves to the world that you have many skills and aren't useless?

Kindletheflame, a B.Ed. is an education degree, right? I'm way too oobsesed with school as it is right now and will definitely take some time off before I even think about doing the automotive program thing for example. I will do the psychology degree partially online, the rest at SJSU. Some of these are possibilities, like sociology. Some of these are genuine facts. I want to be able to walk around and say I have all this shit by the time I hit 95. This is a long-term thing here. Excuse the confusion.

I don't plan on staying in school the rest of my life, just every so often. Think about it, you guys are looking at life in a really myopic way just a little bit. You will be 30 soon for some of you, then 40, then 50, then 60, then 70, then 80 and then you'll drop dead at around 91. So enjoy life.

New College of California is a school in San Francisco. It has a very relaxed admissions policy.

Yes, New College has a relaxed admissions policy. Its why I want to go there in part, they provide emotional support in classes, not competition or bullying.

I meant New College. http://www.newcollege.edu.

I want an education I can be proud of. Multiple specialties, to be useful, not to have some useless degree like Creative Writing.

Are you aspiring to get ALL of those degrees, or are those things that you're just throwing out there as possibilities?

What IS your ultimate goal?

I don't think employers/graduate programs will be all that impressed by multiple AA degrees. They like to see a progression in the level of difficulty, and spending a long time at a community college isn't going to dazzle anyone. But then, that might not be your intent--you might just want to do it for your own experience and knowledge.

I think the holistic health stuff sounds really fascinating.

Its a great program, 67threnody. You learn stuff like psychobiology of healing. The fascination has stuck with me. I'm going to finish the minor first and actually drive up to the city for classes, this will be after I take out a car loan. I do want experience and knowledge because I still feel pretty useless. I think that under the circumstances, I'm useless because all I know how to do is write, admin work, and other shit. I want to be useful on many levels to employers. I am looking at possibilities. But the truth is if you want the truth, that I have 60 years in front of me. That's a whole lifetime. Most of us young folks do not have the experience you older people have on this here blog. I'm planning very long-term here. I plan on finishing a Ph.D. by the time I'm 35. At age 80 I will have all these degrees. Its that simple in my mind, anyway.

to keep learning all of your life is good, but you don't really need to spend a lot of money and get more credentials to do it. Last year, MIT announced it was putting 150 of its course on the internet for self-study, free and a lot of other universities said they would do so, too ( ... )

I didn´t know multiple AAs wouldn´t be tolerated. I got one in anthropology already, and one in creative writing. Getting one in psychology would be amazing because then I can do psyche in one semester at State along with making up that one shitty grade in my English class. Ugh.

I mean, I have much to do with my life still.

what is it you actually want to do (besides study)?

How's Spain? Does your mom have relatives there? What are the special things to see there?

Yeah, Spain is fine.
