So I think I just got the Blue Screen of Death. Twice.
But since I got the laptop working again, it must not have been. I just know it was blue and filled with words that did not bode well. I found a screen shot! Here:

Ew. Hope your laptop is working better now, despite the potential death throes. Hurry and back up everything!! Feel free to just email stuff/upload photos to shutterfly/photobucket/etc. as back-ups...
Did you run some virus scans?
I thought you had a desk/table in the basement?
Merry Christmas! It snowed today, but nothing stuck.
Today it turned on with no trouble. Hooray! I also, erm, stole some DVDs from work to save my photos on. (*defensive* We were going through old supplies and getting rid of stuff we don't use anymore! Better I use them than they end up in the garbage one day!)
No, I haven't run any virus scans except the one my computer does by itself--which hasn't found anything. I guess I assumed you have to pay for all virus scans.
You mean the one holding all of Christian's Warhammer things? :P
I'm glad you've got things worked out. (Hey, remember the mountain of binders in our basement Tou-san saved from the trash at work?)
Try Malwarebytes, if you don't have that one on your laptop already. It's the one Tony recommended, and I've seen it find stuff on the parents' computer that the Microsoft one that came with the machine missed. (I ran 'em one then the other, just to see. He says they each have stuff they're better at finding.) The one on the computer is free I believe, but if you want the "premium" version of it, then you pay. Certain Norton ones can be free online, too. I had that on my old laptop.
No, I thought you had a dark/black table/desk against the wall opposite the Wall of Warhammer in the basement...
Thanks! I'll check out Malwarebytes. Thanks for the sharing the info, too!
That table is now holding the painting stuff for Christian's models in the laundry room. And we're just "borrowing" that table from his mom. Naturally.
Plus new laptops are so expensive these days - understandably so, but STILL. I have an external USB drive, and I'm trying to regularly sync with it, especially for photos. Having hard copies of photos used to be a bother, trying to find a place to put them, but now it's the same problem with digital photos, and without negatives, there's a greater risk in losing them forever. :(
I know...I feel kind of awed that I got to see it--twice! ;)
Ahh, good idea! I hadn't even considered an external hard drive. That might be a good thing to invest in for future backup needs! You're definitely right about the problem with digital photos! I guess I need to quit being so click-happy.
