We've decided to reduce the number of turns per day to 500 in order to reduce the time investment required in the game. After some experimentation, 750 seemed a bit high. We may reduce it further after the start of the game if people find that 500 is too many. Please let us know what you think ( Read more... )

can the turns be cumulative or do they have to max out every day? i'd like to be able to miss a day or so without losing turns and falling behind.

unfortunately there is no option for cumulative turns. I imagine no one will play literally EVERY day, so you're probably not at any serious risk of falling behind.

if there's interest in it, we could probably do 1000 turns and reset it every two days, but that would impact other game settings which are based on real-world time, and potentially give someone a major advantage if they play at the right times.

also: i am having problems displaying the ansi characters correctly. all the art and shit is coming out as garbled european-style floating-diddle-covered-letters and whatnot. this happens in both the vista telnet client and putty. changing the font does not help. any advice you could offer would be most interesting. i can get by because the menus display legibly but i feel i am missing the aesthetic ambience of things. i suspect there may be some obscure character-formatting setting that i don't have set up properly or something. but i'm really not sure.

putty works great but you have to set the character set to UTF-8 which is in Window > Translation.

I've solved that too, but didn't realize it was a separate setting.
Here's the settings I set from a fresh session:
Session
Host Name: tradewars.dridus.com
Connection type: Telnet
Port: 2002
Terminal
Use background color to erase screen: unchecked
Enable blinking text: checked
Terminal > Keyboard
The backspace key: Control-H
Terminal > Features
Disable remote-controlled character set configuration: checked
Window
Rows: 25
Window > Translation
Character set: UTF-8
