Mortal Kombat would call it "Flawless Victory"...

Nov 08, 2006 02:01

As of this posting, the Democratic Party has not lost one incumbent seat in the House, nor one incumbent seat in the Senate, nor ONE incumbent Gubernatorial seat.  All that, while gaining roughly 30 House seats from the Republicans, at least 4 Senate Seats (with a chance of up to 6 as of this moment, giving the Democrats the Senate majority), and ( Read more... )

Mind you, this "Flawless Victory" is in the sense of Dems versus GOP. When it came to the Ballot Referendums, which were technically non-partisan, those of us of a Liberal bent didn't do so well. At least by taking back so much and keeping everything we already had, we are in a good place to undo the damage those Referendums have done.

I mean, Damn! Wisconsin's Dems here have reclaimed the State Senate, while keeping the Governor, Attorney General and other state offices.

Now we need to hold the Dems' feet to the fire and make sure that they behave.

Yeah, I am so with you... I was happy with the candidates CO elected, but our ballot issues mostly didn't go the way I wanted. We had a pro-gay rights referendum (legal rights for domestic partnerships) and an anti-gay "marriage protection" amendment, and the referendum was defeated and the amendment passed. Damn homophobes.

But yeah... high hopes for the democratic majority. And NO MORE RUMSFELD! Yeah!! But Bush may replace him with someone worse. We'll have to see.

Actually, right now the best we can hope for is a 49-49-2 Senate, which means legally no majority...remember the 2 indies? Turns out most news sources are counting them among the Dems (others, like the New York Times, are counting them among the GOPs, which is equally lame)

Actually, this isn't true. The Independents have stated they will caucus as Democrats while seated, legally giving the Dems the majority. Technically, any Republicans could offer the same thing, but they'd get kicked out of the party if they did-- something Independents don't have to worry about.

Well, given that we took over the Wisconsin State Senate, and kept the Governor, we can do JUST that. After all, look at South Dakota, who managed to overturn their anti-abortion measure this year at the polls. I'm going to make a new post on this in just a moment.

yeah! *does happy dance*!
Overall it's very good news- the end of the Republican stranglehold on our democracy... though in MN Pawlenty was re-elected as Gov.
Michele Bachmann was elected as Rep (ewww) But the Dems took the majority of both houses in the MN legislature, so the Gov won't be up to his usual tricks. On the referendum front, we passed a pro-transportation one and in St. Paul school tax levy was passed. And come GLBT lobby day I'm going to be out there stopping them from proposing any anti-marriage amendments.

let us hope that the damage done with the marriage ammendment can be corrected. it is sad to think there are so many closed minded people out there. but i will be damned if we're not gonna open some eyes here!!! that's really all i gotta say. i'm not very politically knowledgeable, but i'm trying to improve on that over time. *shrugs*
