Love Manifesto done for scifiland 's "Tell me Why" challenge

Why do I Love "Defying Gravity" in four words. (plus 100+ picts picspam, and a few more words too)

For those who don't know this series, "Defying Gravity" is, in short, about a group of astronauts sent to explore the solar system.

It aired in 2009, but unfortunately only lasted for one season due to its low ratings. In fact it was taken off the air even before that, so those who followed it had to wait until the DVD came out, to actually finish it. (or look for it over the internet)

I blame the low ratings to the poor promotion, but also ... because it simply lacked of the elements that make a "popular" show. Thrilling action, evil bad boys, ships flying impossible speeds, space battles, super-human characters, etc, etc, etc. At the contrary, the series had some very important fictional/alienish elements on the plot, but overall it was very simple and heartwarming.

And if you ask me to Tell Why I loved it so much, I would answer:

Because it was REAL, BEAUTIFUL, HUMAN, and still, very much SCIFI.

REAL because the series is set in a near future, but aside from those few elements that put the "FI" in SCIFI, it's essentially very realistic and down to earth (excusing the term, considering is all about space exploration :P).

There are several technological and medical advances, of course, but not much that we wouldn't imagine happening in a few years.  We see the characters training and preparing for their space travel, dealing with every day problems, enjoying relaxing times after work, and celebrating their successes together just like every one else does these days.

There's also a huge attention to detail in every scene, which make the whole experience absolutely enthralling, from the most mundane moments to the most breathtaking ones, which brings me to the second word....

BEAUTIFUL because every single moment in this series, from the sweetest to the hardest, are plainly beautiful. The overall aesthetics, the photography, the sets, even the way the camera moves and pans through every scene. Every detail, every color, every angle used, everything is just gorgeous.

And so are its characters. Each and every single one of them. <3

Who only make the third word even more powerful...

HUMAN because each one of these characters has their own weakness and strengths, and because their relationships are deep and intricate. They are friends, lovers and family, and they share and support each other in every moment of happiness or sadness.

And along all that, the series doesn't fail to give us clean, pure, straight up... SCIFI!

TL;DR: It's awesome. Watch it! <3
