Because of my lack of primary employment, they think that anything I spend is digging me into a hole. They didn't want to hear that I wanted to take the summer kind of easy, they only see me not getting a day job. The bar job apparently doesn't count toward anything, they think I'm getting severely in debt somehow -- which I'm not.
This is counterpointed by the fact that my dad was unemployed from January through early August, and Mom didn't so much as lift a finger to get a job to help out. She decided instead to put together a garage sale that would be insufficient if successful, and instead flopped.
Aww! Wish I could, but I'm already going to be at Dartmouth earlier in the month for A.G.'s wedding . . . pretty sure it's not meant to be this time around. Might be living in Boston or NY next year, though . . . and/or less broke, which would serve the same purpose!
Good luck telling the parents! Hope they'll react better than you'd think. Possible strategy? Say HE'S paying for the trip, whether he is or not.
I dropped a couple of comments about the guy I'm currently seeing (avoiding the fact that I'm actually sort of seeing three guys at once *gulp*). My parents didn't react badly; they just didn't react. While we were at the theatre tonight, they saw one of the actors making eyes at me and me glancing back - noticed just enough to begin obviously avoiding taking note. Guess they're still getting used to it . . . neutral seems much better than negative!
