We all have interesting reactions about lies and being lied to. Our feelings about lies are tied up in if we've been lied to or about in the past and the outcome of those lies. I don't feel lied to personally about this affair... I just don't. Strange huh?

I agree this all needs to blow over and get down to business. The newspapers are calling for his resignation, newspapers who didn't like him in the first place. I consider THAT an abuse of power. He's been convicted in the media before any investigation has begun. :P

We should boycott all advertisers of the news media who insist upon calling for his resignation without due process.

Yeah, I'd say it sounds like a witch-hunt.

From all accounts, there has been no law broken.

If the now-18 year old files charges...well, that's a different story. I haven't seen any reports of files charged, though. If I were to place my bet, I'd say that the opposition is probably pushing the issue in hopes that the 18 year old is guilted into filing charges.

Sam Adams should fight for his job. I don't think he should resign. The morality police can go fuck themselves.

Put an ad on craigslist... I'm sure someone would intern to you for something or other.

I wish he'd just said, "no comment" on it in the first place, but I get that he wanted to squash it. Pedophile is an impossible term to recover from in our society, and doubly so for a gay man ( ... )

"The only question is a classic sexual harassment one: was the sex in exchange for any sort of governmental favor, keeping of job, promise of job, etc? If not, I don't care."

Exactly. But that the man was asked to lie casts a serious amount of disfavor on the whole thing.

Second; Regardless of how you or I feel about the subject, 18 is the legal age of consent. However, many states even understand that there is a difference between a 20yo and a 17yo getting it on (as I did), and a 42yo and a 17yo (though not all). But putting that aside; if the man is 18, don't care---until he's asked to lie. Then it's like; wait ( ... )

See that's just it... is there a difference between a 42 and an 18 year old getting it on vs a 42 and 17 year old? Given we mature in leaps not in day by day it begs the question of the difference. But that's a whole other post ( ... )
