Tip - and I speak from experience, here - keep writing. For one thing, you have to be careful not to get caught in the re-writing loop; it's something you may never work your way out of. I found that out the hard way, myself. :P And even so.
It's very rare (for me, at least) to write something and look back on it the first time, or even the first few times, and feel that there's anything worth keeping. I find that if I write it and then put it away for a while, I'm able to look at it much more objectively when I come back to it, see what it's really worth.
If you keep writing you won't run up against that feeling of frustration like you're getting nowhere (well, as much :P)and it'll help you get a better sense of where your novel is going - something that comes in very handy when revising earlier chapters

Yes, it did help. ^^ I'll plow through. I just have a hard time not reading over it and asking myself who in their right mind would want to read it. x.x
Haha. Yeah, I know exactly how that is. I'm pretty sure that's a nigh-universal experience for authors, though. You just have to keep on trucking, you know?
Anyway, glad it helped, best of luck with the monstrosity (which is how a friend of mine and I have taken to referring to our respective novels, because they truly are).
Maybe we should swap books sometime, yeah? I'm curious to read yours. ^_^
Yup! I like using the butt-in-chair method... some days I don't write anything, but at least I'm sitting there, trying.
Monstrosity- I like. XD
Sure, I'd love to do that. ^^ Mine is only around 10,000 words right now, so it still need a lot of work... and I think it's bad. Actually, some days I think it's good, and some people have liked it, but I dislike it at the present moment.
Heh. Like I said, that's all part of the process, though - there are days when I can't stand my work. Any of it. Despite the reassurances that I might have from other people. *shrug*
Anyway, don't worry about the word count, or how much work it needs - really, that's the stage when you should have people reading your work, so you know what works and what doesn't for other people. That's what I've found, anyway.
I actually have no idea what the word count of mine is right now, lol. The official document ("official", yes XD) puts the word count at just under 20,000 but the official document doesn't know that I need to re-write my first two chapters somewhat, which'll make it rather longer. Plus there's an entirely new chapter that I need to integrate... but yeah!
