I now get what you meant by saying that Sawyer is the island's very own Rick Blaine! Duh. Of course! (and heee, Renault, and the last line. Awesome!)
I don't brainstorm on such similarities for nothing ;) seriously, it's great to hear you liked it! I can't help my utter and absolute love for that movie. That final scene is one of my favorites ever.
Rick making the kid win enough money to pay the visas for him and his wife without having her sleep with Renault. So fuckin' romantic!
Oh, he's so romantic. He just doesn't want to admit it but isn't he just? ;) also, that cap is totally worthy of getting posted.
As the Newman/Redford ones, of course. *stares and licks lips very eagerly* ah, there's nothing like good old movies.
true. Good old movies are so enjoyable despite the many years that had passed since they were done. :) Though, even this time, I can't help my dislike for the female leading character... Even her husband (whom I was all set to dislike) was instead a much better person than her. At least this time I can blame it on a more common prejudice against women, while in modern movies/tv series (Kate, anyone?) it's harder to justify. Why, oh why, woman are all bitches so hard to write? *sighs*
Casablanca, you'd never seen it? I like it, the buddy feeling at the end and the angst of lost love..it's irrestible.
Have you ever seen The Barefoot Contessa with Humphrey? Great GREAT movie..and themes that were way ahead of it's time too.
My father loved movies, so I saw Casablanca when is was a little kid, if there was one gift my father gave to me was a love of movies and a vast VAST amount of movie titles under my belt.
it's definitely good! And no, I have never seen the Barefoot Contessa, either. *puts on 'to watch' list* My father loves movies too, but apparently I wasn't interested enough until now. I guess I should work on my knowledge of old movies, then. ;)
Casablanca is such a good film! And yes, the ending is just perfect! Claude Raines is one of my favorite actors and he was, as usual, excellent in that role.
Mmm, Paul Newman. He's marvelous. I think I first had a crush on him after I saw The Sting.
I had a crush on Newman for quite a long time... I loved his movies, but it's been many years since I watched them. Plus, this time I finally get to hear them in the original language, and it definitely adds a plus!
I'm going to keep watching old movies, when I have time, it's such a joy. :)
I love old movies too. A couple of my favorite Newman films are The Long Hot Summer and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Oh, and Hud, he was great in that too. :)
And I also loved Claude Raines in Mr. Skeffington, have you seen that? It might be more obscure, but it's really good. It stars Bette Davis, one of my favorite actresses. Oh! And they're also both in Now, Voyager, another favorite old movie of mine. LOL, I could go on and on...
I loved the first two as well - and The Hustler, too. Good times. :)
I actually don't know Claude Raines at all, if not for having just seen him in Casablanca, so I'll check out that movie. Bette Davies, on the other hand, I know and like! :)
Okay, I'm probably one of the few persons that have never watched Casablanca (shame on me, I know), but I suddenly feel like watching. Looking at the hotness I decided it worths a try.
I too watched it for the first time this weekend! It's not too late! (and not shame on you, of course!)
The hotness that is Newman&Redford actually belongs to other movies (the Sting and Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid), Casablanca has 'only' Bogart, but it's a good movie. I was expecting - don't know why - a movie about war, but instead it's a movie about love. :)

E Rick, decisamente un gran personaggio! In confronto a Ilsa, poi! Che str***!
