with project wireless. The router as well as the wireless card are here, so I'll be attempting installation tonight. Just need to get configuration settings from the cable company. I just scanned directions and I am already confused, as they ask me to plug Ethernet cable from the router to my laptop. The whole point is to get wireless, not another

FWIW, we have to plug the ethernet cable from the router to the laptop when we reboot the wireless system -- you basically have to be connected via ethernet to establish the network connection at first. As soon as it's running, we unplug the cable from the computer and just roam. :-)

So, your instructions sound pretty typical, actually -- I'm guessing they mean that the ethernet cable has to be used for the initial setup/config, and then for any subsequent setups/configs after shutting down the wireless router or modem...

You'll need to plug the laptop into the router to configure it and to turn on the wireless. Once you do that, you'll be able to get rid of the cable.
