Random Thought?

Human life...supposedly the most valuable/precious thing on the planet. At least that is what I was raised to believe.

Todays thought:

Does the value of a human life change in relation to the population of the planet?

My mind tends to think that it does, and that the relation is inversely proportional.

Thoughts?

I would say that it does. But I would also say Human life isn't the most valuable/precious thing on the planet. Life itself is (in my mind ( ... )

by the way. i'm not saying i agree with how china handles things. it's just interesting the way they "think" they are controling it.

I don't think limiting people on children or forcing oboritions is anything but aweful.

I think it is that line of thought that lead to the decline of the easter world like Japan, China, and Soviet Union. Where human life became so cheap and nearly worthless in the eye's of the powers that be that they where willing to sacrifice thousands. I'll not go into the details of about people like Joseph Stalin to make my point.

I would say for me no, the value of each life is not diminished as population grows. What diminishes is most peoples regard for the value of other peoples lives. The insect-endagered species analogy is a good one. Humans tend to assign value to things by rarity. I don't know if it's ingrained in us or if it's learned behavior, but it's gone on for as long as there is recorded history, we tend to covet that which we cannot have.

That then opens up the age old question, is our reality what we make it. If most people have less regard for others lives then do those lives indeed have less value? Really, it's a personal belief or opinion thing. If you think that the value of life lessens with higher population then it does.

The problem with this question is its subjectivity. Value is different for everyone. Let me put this another way ( ... )
