For my own reference

This article on tiny laptops (netbooks) seems like a possibility for replacing my 2003 Powerbook when the time comes that I really can't resurrect it. I'd prefer to keep using the Macintosh operating system, but I've never really liked the 13" size of their current smallest laptops.  My 12" has been ideal for nearly 5 years now, except for the ( Read more... )

Something you might be interested in, when it eventually comes out. Pricetag is a bit lower than a mac. Won't have the same power, though. Also: not sure about it's movie-playing capabilities.

Hmmm, interesting. Good to have on my radar. It claims it'll play a movie without running out of batteries, so presumably that means it will play movies.
Thank you!

It does look good. I've also been eyeing lenovo's IdeaPad S10, since it's also a fairly lightweight PC for under $500. Though I must admit, I rather like this one. I'm waiting to see what the reviews say. (And for me to have a spare $500 lying around...)

Though, I must admit: my problem with a lot of these small notebooks is that the keyboards are too small --- they can cause my carpal tunnel to flare like damn, which makes it nearly impossible to type. (I had this problem durring NaNo two years ago. Since then I've been a strong proponent of ergonomic workspaces.)

Still... it would be nice to have a real lightweight laptop. I could see having this and a decent desktop/server at home. This combo would more or less take care of my needs. (Especially as I so rarely need anything heavy weight while I'm on the move.)

I thought I would dislike the move to my 13" MacBook from the 12", but it's not so bad--it's a little bigger but the widescreen format makes it so multiple things can be visible at once, which I really like. It's a nice compromise between small and helping with productivity. That said, that may just be me. But I did think it would feel way bigger than it does.
