RE. point 3 - I actually always worried that it would have broken him. The upside to democracy is the vibrancy and autonomy; the downside is the ruthless fame-seeking. We run small blogs, which very few people outside of our immediate RL acquaintances read. He would have wanted to be some sort of corey doctrow, I think, and there is a chance that he would have tried and failed.

But, I also have a poor mental image of how resolute dad was. The ATC fiasco left a sort of sour taste of defeat that never really had a chance to be washed away.
