Toward the Terra rant

May 15, 2007 23:35

This entry brought about by sheer irritation at the protagonist of Terra. Within the first three episodes he is already making excellent headway toward making me wanting to strangle the little ingrate. Someone saves your life, tries to enlighten you and houses you and the way you repay them is by racist remarks and self-righteous resentment (saying "I'm not a Mu like you. I'm human." is the twisting sort of insult that tends to get under the skin). It's pretty damn clear the world you come from doesn't give two shits about you when they start shooting missiles at you. Not to mention this world is pretty much lifted out of "1984" and "Brave New World" and the little bastard doesn't even realize it. Given that he's raised in it he wouldn't of course. It wouldn't be a "utopian" society if the schools actually taught you to think for yourself. But the sheer teenaged pigheaded-ness, stupidity and bravado goes straight for my nerves every time. It just shows how sheltered and naive he is that he doesn't anticipate the ramifications of his actions or give thought to anyone besides himself. And anime is chock full of these idiots running around ruining anything interesting a show might offer (Scrapped Princess I'm looking at you, grrr).

Hmm...thinking on it some more, there also seems to be a case of the famed Japanese mother-complex at work. His (fake) mother is too perfect anyways; his life was too perfect. What a stupid setup! I hope they torture him lots and lots. Maybe he'll even turn into Ikari Shinji (coincidentally Saiga Mitsuki is the not as sexy version of Ogata Megumi).

ETA: Officially giving up on this series
