The opening ceremonies were spectacular. The scale of it was actually laughable, in a hysterical "OMG look at the people!" way. It was beautiful, and full of symbolism, and also kind of empty. heh, i enjoyed this rant, mostly because there have been several things that have left me with vaguely disquieting feelings about the way China has handled hosting, but i never would have phrased it the way you have, so that's rather enlightening, in a way.

the most the media boasts about how omfgamazing the opening ceremony was, and the more they boast about how much it cost, the more i think, oh shit, every single man, woman, and child in china is paying for that, through the nose. ~_~ le sighs.
