American moms on flist, I need your help.

My poor sister is feeling very anxious and TBH I don't know what to say because I would be feeling exactly the same way in her shoes.  I got 9 months maternity leave and that didn't feel long enough, never mind 6 weeks and long hours/hard physical work sort of job (she's a veternary surgery technician, so ( Read more... )

Poor thing! That sounds really hard. I can understand why she's freaking out about it all. Will have a think and post again...

Oh my, it is a different world isn't it :( Here I am contemplating if I will go back after 9 months, and loose money by the time I've paid for childcare for two of them plus petrol to go to work, or take the 3 monts unpaid at the end, go back after a year, so that I'm going back to work the week Izzy starts school.

Come on lottery win!

I know, I feel so bad - almost guilty - that I can't give her any support in that regard and I can't keep saying things like, "wow I'm so glad I don't have to do that!". She does have other working mom friends (co-workers who have had babies) but understandably is just panicking a little about the emotional impact. I think if I went back to work at 6 weeks, I would've died.

aww, poor thing. It IS stressful. Um, as for bottles, my friend used the breastflow and she liked them. I babysat her little guy for a few days when she went back to work and he took right to them for me. For Will, I used evenflo glass bottles with regular nipples and William had no nipple confusion. If her little one doesn't like one bottle, she can switch to another ( ... )

Cool thanks. She's in Colorado so obviously no clue what her state laws are but I'm not sure how much she's investigated taking more than 6 weeks (even just a few extra weeks would help). We have Breastflow bottles here which I know are good, but thanks for the other brand rec.

Okay...the easy part: bottles. You really just have to try a couple to see how it goes. No reason to worry about nipple confusion in advance. I used the Tommy Tippee bottles because they seemed the most similar to the breast and we had no trouble at all. She can just buy one of a few brands and try each one ( ... )
