8. our own world
A sweet five-year-old girl is more then happy to be clinging to her mothers’ side. Even if one of her brothers was throwing a fit about her taking Lilith’s attention from him. From all the noise and harsh words she begins to cry a little. Being the delicate baby sister she’s easily hurt and confused as to what was wrong with her wanting to stay alongside the woman who was her mother. “It’s okay, Seth. Abel doesn’t mean it.” The woman softly reassures the girl who simply stares past her at the young man whose still glaring at her. The glare easily upset her again and bothered her far more then any words he could speak. She clutched herself to Lilith and hid as best she could. The girl couldn’t bring herself to admit that she was more afraid of his silence then anything else.
“Are we having troubles?” a different voice calls. One she knew and a person she loved almost as much as her mother. “Cain!” she calls for him happily and manages to let go of her enough to give him a shy wave. “She’s just a little upset. It’s been a long day though. Perhaps it’s time to get some rest. What do you think?” the girl seems to try and think this over. In reality she just wanted to look like she had something important to say. She was happy with Lilith and Cain. Abel was scary but Lilith always reassured her that he cared for her. That he was just bad with expressing it. Being a child she couldn’t believe that. After all who yells, curses and glares when they care for a person.
While the brothers spoke a bit about Abel’s behavior, her mother was guiding her to her room where she could get some peace and quiet. Seth blinked away a couple of tears as she walked as close to her as humanly possible. “Why doesn’t he like me?” “He does like you. He just doesn’t know how to express it since you’re so young. Do you love your brothers?” the girl nods as they finally arrive at her room. She scurries ahead and crawls up onto her bed. Her mother goes over and pulls the blankets up and over the girl who nestles happily into the warmth.
“Get some sleep, Seth. I love you.” She leans down and kisses her forehead. As her mother brushes a hand through her hair a few times while she begins to drift off into sleep. “I love you too. You’re always going to be here, right?” this earns her a light laugh and a nod. With that reassurance Seth curls up on her side and dozes off as Lilith left her room.
When the morning comes and she stirs from her sleep everything is different. It isn’t the colony. There isn’t the world’s savior there to greet her like a mother greets a child in the morning. Those times died long ago with her. She sits up in her bed and clutches the blanket up to her chest. Her family was gone. She knew that. All hopes of her having her family died when Abel came and left. Somehow she knew it would end up this way. They were never a real family. She still couldn’t help herself. She wanted her family and above all she wanted her mother. It was at this realization she laughs a little. A child is always a child to their mother. She wasn’t a exception to this rule. she's a mother now though and she was going to move on. She was going to continue to lead her Empire how it was no matter what anyone said, what anyone did. She was a mother but still the same stubborn child her mother knew.
