I can't figure out if you are in favor of these books being in the school library or against.
I'm against restricting books. You need to raise your children in such a way that exposure to things that you do not like will not undermine your influence. You should expect your children to be exposed to ideas that differ from your own and provide them with the information needed to know why you are right. If you are worried about what they may find outside of your direct control, home school until they're 18 and don't let them play with the neighbor's kids.
Bridge to Terabithia: We saw this movie. We went in expecting something like The Witch, The Lion, and The Wardrobe. We got a really sad movie instead. Picked on kids who play together in an imaginary setting in the woods, one of whom dies when the other goes to the museum. It was just a sad story. The list is: Sad stories, Sex, Magic, and Puberty.
On one hand, Kids should read what they are interested in. People in general learn more if it's a subject that interests them.
The horror books and Social situation books shocked me the most. What are we saying by not allowing kids to read about situations that are peer pressure? And what's the problem with goosebumps?
On the other hand, kids mature at different rates. Even the ones in the same grade, may or may not be able to understand correctly. Kids should not have access to all the books published. 1: the book wasn't written for kids to read. IE: howard stern's book. 2: the knowledge is dangerous. IE: bomb building. 3. books about Puberty and the changes should be restricted. That knowledge *Should* come from the parents. Book should be a guide, not a sole source.
