I had a quick look and it seemed about as impenetrable as Tumblr though that's probably true of anywhere new. If I wasn't using Tumblr, do I need to consider joining? I live on DW, LJ, WP and FB as it is and find social media exhausting. It has finally dawned on me that I can just either cross post or at least share the same post with all my sites and that's quite a relief. What I basically want from any site is: discussions, fic and art recs, somewhere to market my work, fandom news, and perhaps kittens (or puppies). Advice welcomed!

I'd say no need to hurry unless you want the advantage of an early start, like building the group of followers or being a beta user and possibly influencing the site's future shape. Or having a free choice of username, like me - for once I didn't need to add anything to Aletheia. I doubt they'll open the door and offer free accounts for at least a few next months anyway, and it's going to look better and run smoother by then, hopefully.

All this should be covered same as on Tumblr when it gathers a bigger userbase (news, kittens, fanworks) or already is covered better than on Tumblr (discussions). Pillowfort seems to be rather LJ with Tumblr's appearance than the other way around, which I think is promising, as long as it keeps developing. Currently Pillowfort has just ~25k of users. I certainly didn't go there because I wanted a new place; I just made my guess on what fandom can do now. Which may or may not come true, heh.

I've expressed an interest by leaving my email - they aren't accepting any more registrations at the moment. When they are, I will, hopefully, have decided whether or not I need another site! Thanks for clarifying it all!

Yes, since December 14th (I think?) they're holding off new users because the servers couldn't take the current overload. If it helps, there's an option of a free demo account, I think it should still work. And as for your concern about Pillowfort vs. Tumblr, I think you may find this post and discussion interesting.

That does seem useful! (LJ does have the "recent comments" feature, which could sometimes be used for that -- but maybe just for paid accounts? It's been so long, I don't remember what's what anymore...)

That '15 new comments' thing? (Which somehow turnes into 10 after opening.) The one on the main page where I never go anyway? But it's only recent ones, and apparently works only for one's own journal, and not for wherever you commented. If I get it well, on Pillowfort they didn't make it a feature of the site itself (yet?), but a part of user culture - you just post a post and say "hey, you may be interested in those discussions I had recently, wanna jump in?".

As a perm-account holder, I can see up to 100 most recent comments I posted (anywhere) and received (@ my LJ). I thought there also used to be a similar replies-to-me-anywhere-on-LJ feature, which was useful for keeping track of community conversations, but I can't find it anymore and may be making it up altogether.

And I see what you mean about Pillowfort it being part of user culture. It's an interesting idea which could be handy! (depending on how people use it, of course, like anything)

Nigdy nie byłam specjalnie blisko z tumblrem, śledziłam jeden czy dwa dla strategicznych informacji fanowskich, ale Twój post uświadomił mi, jak daleko odpłynęłam. Wdzięcznam za rzeczowe streszczenie wydarzeń :)

Do przewidzenia :D Jak boty miałyby odróżniać porno od nie-porno, skoro dwie osoby mogłyby mieć czasem trzy zdania. A przykłady świetne!

My guess is the review request feature was set to accept by default, on an assumption no one would appeal for an actual porn.
Trochę jak u mnie na jednym przedmiocie na studiach, specjalny program generował i sprawdzał nam zadania, i jak się miało uwagi, to można było poprosić o sprawdzenie przez człowieka. Wszystkie moje prośby kończyły się przyznaniem punktu, do dziś nie wiem, czy miałam to dobrze, czy się sprawdzać nie chciało...

A poza oficjalnym ogłoszeniem Tumblr dołożył jeszcze oficjalny post z przykładami, co wolno. Była między innymi kamienna rzeźba w klasycznym ogrodowym typie, kobieta na badaniu ultrasonograficznym i nie pamiętam co tam jeszcze. Też go oflagowało. :3
Nagroda specjalna za The Best Idea for Trolling Tumblr idzie do kogoś, kto na Reddicie rzucił myślą: porno blog składający się wyłącznie z męskich sutków. Nie wiem, czy ktokolwiek zrealizował, prosimy o zgłoszenia, nagroda za współudział czeka.
Tak że ten. Ogółem pożar w burdelu i dwa tygodnie darmowej komedii. ^^

Wszystkie moje prośby kończyły się przyznaniem punktu, do dziś nie wiem, czy miałam to dobrze, czy się sprawdzać nie chciało...
Czyli z góry zakładali, że wszyscy zgłaszający chcą wyjęczeć/wygrozić wyższą ocenę, a nie faktycznie się czegoś dowiedzieć...

Na razie jednak wszystko jest na etapie "jeśli", a Tumblrytów przejmują Twitter i Instagram, mimo że są gorsze dla grafiki i dyskusji nawet niż Tumblr.
Dziwi mnie popularność Instagrama w tym kontekście, bywa, że ma przewagę nawet nad Facebookiem, na przykład fanpejdżem. Ludzie teoretycznie zainteresowani kimś albo czymś są bardziej zainteresowani zdjęciem niż postem ze zdjęciem.

Ludzie teoretycznie zainteresowani kimś albo czymś są bardziej zainteresowani zdjęciem niż postem ze zdjęciem.
Bo tak szybciej, przypuszczam... :/ A Instagram działa jakby ktoś usiadł i powiedział "Ej, a jakby tak jeszcze bardziej spieprzyć Tumblra." Przecież toto przycina wszystko do kwadratu i pozwala dodawać tylko z wersji mobilnej! o___O

This was such a shit show. And the of course all the drama in the EU with Art. 11/13, I'm sooo sick of it all!

Then again, I haven't been using LJ/DW/tumblr for weeks (months?), just couldn't find the motivation to write and post. Especially because internet speed in my village is... mediocre. Let's call it that. Which is a very bad thing for tumblr or anything else that has to load lots of gifs. No problems with videos most of the time, but gifs. Ohhh boy. :(

I'm on Pillowfort as well, but haven't done much at all. *shrugs*

I'm somewhere between being genuinely sorry for all those users and madly cackling over this epic dumpster fire. :) :) :) 11/13 drama, though, I kind of let it pass me, as I don't really have a half of braincell to spare for actually caring, to be honest. Too busy with other things, so I'm like que será, será for this...

I feel your pain, yes, Tumblr is terrible for lagging connections and weaker hardware... :(

I'm on Pillowfort as well, but haven't done much at all. *shrugs*Yeah, same here. I still hope it's going to be big in the future, but for now... Then again, it's never gonna be big if everyone thinks the same and keeps waiting. On the other hand, I'm kind of "hmmm..." at the updated Terms of Service. They started as a wannabe better Tumblr, but I don't think they're handling it well, especially how they try to prevent child porn using the wording that makes them another Tumblr, just with (adult) female nipples allowed. I mean, it seems like they don't realize (

Not to mention that "a better Tumblr" was at least by some hoped to mean SJW-free, and yet those who point out logical traps of the Pillowfort TOS are already often labeled pedos..
It's a very difficult topic and it seems nowadays people are very quick to scream SJW even if it's legitimate criticism. We'll see how this'll turn out. I just don't have the energy anymore to get riled up by all the drama.
