On Stranger Tides - first thoughts, part 1

Spoilers!

It's not supposed to be a review, just... thoughts. Scraps of first reflections.
Considering my English writing abilities, I'll better post it in parts, or I can not do it at all. Or in a month. Or two. And this should be more comfortable in reading, not to mention about adding forgotten things in next parts. So I'm asking in advance, forgive me jumping to and fro between subjects, please. Comments and discussion most welcomed!

It was two years when we heard first official news about PotC 4? So much time, really? It was like yesterday... maybe last month. After so much news and expectations, it suddenly hit me - today. And suddenly... it's after. In a some odd way, I'm sad, a bit... But also with new expectations. The end of waiting, the start for... everything other.

Two things was most important to find in OST, for me.
1. Jack Sparrow. True one. Less a clown on string, more a Captain at the helm, of his life if not his ship, pretty please.
2. That... That. Something what means a decision. Something what has a price. Something what wrings the heart and makes to think, obsessively. Elizabeth leaving Jack to the Kraken. Jack giving Jones' heart to Will. Something what is PotC.

As for the first, Jack is back! Mad and brilliant, and this time even more brilliant than mad. It's his movie, no doubt. Not that I'm complaining... :) In treasures curiosities, that's probably the first time, when we get truly seriously angry Jack, not only truly serious. No, I'm definitely not complaining. Oh, rawrrr... :)
And Jack means Jack's Entrance. Hmm... I'm unsatisfied a bit. Not that the good Judge wasn't good, I've mentioned about brilliance, right? It was that there was not enough the good Judge! Actually, I have not so many reservations about Mr. Marshall work, but I can have this one - too much close-ups, too few medium shots. And the composition of these shots. And too much cuttings in and between some scenes. The good Judge was suggested more that shown, ehh...
Nevertheless, the brilliance proceeds. When I saw the King's Palace clip, I was happy but a bit doubtful. One needs to see it all to appreciate properly. Well, now we know that he plans it out at least in part. *g*
Proceeds still... Whoa, Jack! you're a costly strumpet, a whole earring for a one kiss? A brilliant earring?! Well, it had to be a brilliant kiss, I believe... When at the end of September 2010 I saw this photo, we puzzled with friends what is it he holds in mouth.

I've told that's Jack's movie, but it needs some explanations. Yes, Jack is on the forefront, there's much of him, and I love it. But in the meaning of the plot, the script construction, surprisingly, it's not Jack Sparrow's story. A novelty is, that Jack has no goal this time, or strictly speaking, Jack's goal isn't the main item of the movie. I won't say 'isn't the movie's essence', however. That's quite another thing. ;) But this time, it's not Jack who strives, who pursues. This time it's Hector Barbossa's pursuit and goal. And Angelica & Blackbeard's. Barbossa chases Queen Anne's Revenge, QAR aims the Fountain of Youth. Where's Jack in it? He just... lives. Tries to survive. Enjoys the live and surviving. And he's quite happy with this enough. The Fountain is The Black Pearl and Davy Jone's Chest of OST, and the happiness of life is its horizon and freedom. Jack knows it far, far better than anyone in OST. Again, only thing he wants apart surviving is The Black Pearl. If Aqua de Vida attracted him at all, it stops when he learns that the price of it is other's life. All in all, I like it...

But.

Yes, there's 'but'. My second point. There was indeed supposed to be a price and a decision in OST, alas, it turned out to be between Angelica and Blackbeard, with no concern of Jack, in any important part anyway. And sad to say, this didn't engage me. It didn't click for me enough. No PotC quality in PotC this time, then, at least in the heartwringing department. And it's an important department, like hell.

However and fortunately, not the sole department, and though OST is gravely crippled in my eyes, it's not dead. There are things which I can enjoy and muse over. There are also things which make me growl and scowl. And sometimes incline me to snorts, facepalms and rolling eyes. But I'll leave them all for the next posts.

However, I don't know if someone would be interested in the next posts? Or in this one? If you're reading it now and maybe would like more, please, tell me about it. I'll be grateful, it means a lot for me cause writing in English isn't so easy for me. It's fun but I'd like rather to know if it's a worthwhile fun. :)
