The only water in the forest is the River
I finished my thesis *dances* Now it’s just waiting for the inevitable feedback. In the mean time I have been amusing myself by going to see X-Men First Class and with watching the Doctor Who mid-series finale and in general by acting like my completely idiotic self instead of the stress chicken I’ve been for the last couple of days.
First Class is definitely the best X-Men movie as of yet. If you would have taken out the superpowers you probably would have had a Bond flick or something like that. The fact that is doesn’t rely on superpowers makes it refreshing. The cast was great, as was the acting and directing. They picked an interesting cast of mutants and I enjoyed that they took the Cuban Missile Crisis as the event the movie took place in.
Fun fact: I went to see it with my boyfriend (who can be such a homophobe sometimes, but I like to think he became more open minded while dating me). I was teasing him that I’d probably end up shipping Charles and Erik together... damn it movie I was teasing him but but that bromance augh.
After some less than good movies I can say this and Thor rekindled my fate in comic book adaptions.
Doctor Who was good, very solid an episode. I especially loved how they showed the Doctor as this invincible soldier. It made the payback all the better. The message that war is not glorious but a tragedy and absolutely horrible. Watching some of those people, like Lorna Bucket, die was just aaaargh x.x
Also I’m glad to see the Doctor got called out on what he was doing. It’s good to see River being his moral compass, because this man needs one of those sometimes.
Amy’s daughter turning into that puddle of flesh, traumatizing, just that scream she gave *shudders*
Things I loved:
• Victorian interspecies lesbians, fighting crime like Holmes & Watson. So much love for Madame Vastra & Jenny <3
• Amy’s speech to Melody about her BAMF father
• Rory being completely badass and all Last Centurion
• The way the Ponds were so sweet with there daughter
• The rounding up of friends to go to battle and all the call-backs that came with it
• River’s identity (which was fandom pet theory, so it wasn’t super shocking but still pleasing all the same)
• Commander Strax the Sontaran nurse, Dorium and Headless Monks
• Lorna Bucket, for some reason I really liked her
• Title for first episode after the break: Let’s Kill Hitler… really Moffat? XD
Things I don’t like:
• Waiting for 3 months x.x
• It did feel a bit all over the place at certain points
Everything’s beautiful and nothing hurts. until I get back the feedback and it’ll be a stress party again
