Julian gave him a brief look of confusion as Alex latched onto his arm again, then shrugged it off. "Let's go then."Alex half led and half followed Julian out to the playground, eventually crawling up onto something large and circular. Julian had been eyeing perhaps the merry-go-round, but when Alex climbed onto the trampoline Lucy had told him about, he had no choice but to follow with a little sigh. "Good god," he muttered as it sagged beneath his weight, making even crawling difficult. He gave in and flopped onto his back at Alex's side, the springs creaking softly as the trampoline bounced a few times, gently, then stilled.

"So many what?" he asked when things finally stopped moving (it took a little longer inside his head, naturally). There weren't many people out here...

Alex pointed up, expression still and a bit enraptured. "Stars. You cannot see this many in Berlin. Isn't it amazing?"

Ah. "They're like this at Charleston," he replied softly. It just seemed the sort of topic that called for hushed voices. "Oh, different conste--cons--different stars, but nearly as many."

He missed Charleston. Things were so simple back in England.

Alex smiled and kept looking up, eventually grabbing hold of Julian's hand. If he was going to be facing the sheer enormousness of the universe tonight, he was going to do it with someone next to him. And besides, Julian had a very nice hand. Perfect for holding.
