Olivia slammed her locker shut and stormed out of the squad room. It was late at night, so there wasn't anyone around to question her, and even if there was, she didn't think they would dare approach her right now. Not if they had any sense.
She had just found out that the Jenkins case had been thrown out. Judge Seligman, in one of his more "difficult" moments, ruled for the defence on both motions to suppress. The confession was out, along with the DNA evidence. That had left them with exactly nothing. A case that should have been a slam-dunk had come apart at the seams quicker than anyone could have guessed. Olivia was furious. She strode down the street not paying any attention to where she was headed. She'd walked this route so many times that it was second nature. Out the precinct doors, turn left. Walk 3 blocks, then turn right. She kept walking, lost in her thoughts. Thinking about how she had promised the little girl, Amelia Jenkins, that she would never have to see her attacker again. Thinking about how she was going to explain to Amelia's mother, that the man who had kidnapped and tortured her little girl, was going to be sleeping next door to them again tonight, and every night in the future, and there was nothing they could do about it. Turn left. Thinking about the photos of Amelia's back. Hundreds of tiny cuts, where he had taken a razor blade to her skin, and used it like a canvas to carve out his sick fantasies. Turn right. Thinking about the perps twisted smile, as he told her everything he had done, and all the things he had wanted to do.
She opened the door to the bar, nodded at the man who was a permanent fixture on the front bar stool, and slid onto a stool at the back end of the bar. Pam, the bartender, took one look at Olivia and poured a neat double whisky. "Wanna talk about it hun?" she asked, knowing the answer already. Olivia only ever went to that bar when things at work were going really badly, which seemed to be more often than not lately.
"Not tonight Pam," Olivia replied. "Thanks," she said as an afterthought, nodding towards the scotch.
Olivia didn’t talk about "it". Ever. She explained it away as not wanting to burden other people with the horrors she had the face every day, but if she was honest with herself (which she rarely was) it was because if she started talking, she was scared she would start crying, and if she started crying she didn't think she'd be able to stop. No. Olivia Benson was strong. She was kind and compassionate with the victims, but she was strong enough to be able to take it on. She didn't cry.
She sat in silence, slowly drinking her third whisky and staring off into space when she felt a hand rest lightly on her shoulder. She snapped her head up and found ice-blue eyes piercing through her. Those eyes. She always felt so naked in front of them. Alex had a way of looking at someone and making them feel like she could see straight to their core, and Olivia was no exception. Looking away, she motioned for the ADA to take a seat. Sitting down, Alex ordered another round and they sat there in silence. She knew Olivia was grateful for the company, just as much as she knew Olivia would never open up as to why she was sitting on her own, in a bar, drinking whisky. Alex didn't ask questions, she just sat there quietly sipping her drink until Olivia indicated their next move.
They had done this dance before. It started when Alex lost her first SVU case and went looking for someone, anyone, to take her mind of it for the night. The next day, they had agreed it was a mistake, it shouldn't happen again…etc. What neither of them had admitted to themselves, let alone each other, was that after that night their feelings had changed, and deepened. They had been agreeing it shouldn't happen again several times a month for the past 3 months.
Olivia stood up and paid the tab. She said goodnight to Pam, and lead Alex out into the street. Still, neither of them had spoken. Alex hailed a cab, and gave the driver Olivia's address. Once inside her apartment, Olivia threw her keys, badge and gun on the dresser and spun around, pinning Alex to the wall. She pushed her body flush against Alex's, and kissed her fiercely, devouring her mouth. Alex let her tongue fight back, the strong muscle pushing against Olivia's in a brief battle for dominance. Olivia's hands were roughly running over Alex's hips, pulling her closer. Alex let out a small whimper, and gave in to her lovers need to control. Olivia felt the change in Alex, and lifted her up. Alex automatically wrapped her legs around Olivia, partly to hold on, but mostly because she knew that's what the detective wanted. Moments later, Alex was laying on the bed, still with her legs wrapped around Olivia, fully clothed except for her jacket. Olivia had removed her lips from Alex's and was now leaving a trail of small bite marks along her collar bone, up to her pulse point. She bit down hard, at the same time pushing Alex's panties aside and plunging two fingers deep inside her. She set a frenzied pace, and Alex's moans only spurred her on, as she pushed a third finger in. Olivia kissed Alex again, licking, sucking, nibbling on her full bottom lip, claiming the ADA's mouth with her tongue. As she felt Alex's breathing start to quicken, then falter, she thrust deeper inside. She used her thumb to circle her swollen clit, flicking once, twice, three times, before feeling muscles tighten around her fingers, Alex's body freezing. She shivered, hearing her name being growled by the beautiful woman beneath her. She held Alex tight until the last of the aftershocks, then gently removed her hand, and curled into the blonde's side.
A few moments later, Alex moved to undo Olivia's pants. Olivia caught her hand and whispered "Not tonight." It was the first words she had spoken to Alex all evening. "Stay?"
This was new. They had never spent the night. Alex looked at Olivia curiously before settling back into the bed. "I'll need some pyjama's," she replied. Olivia found a tank top and tracksuit pants for her to wear to bed, and pointed out the spare toothbrush in the bathroom.
When Alex returned, Olivia was already in bed, having brushed her teeth in the kitchen sink. She climbed in to the bed, and curled up into the strong detective. Olivia stroked her hair until she heard her lovers breathing deepen. She kissed her on the forehead and whispered "I love you, Alex," before rolling over to go to sleep.
Alex was almost asleep when she felt Olivia's kiss. She waited for her to settle then lightly squeezed her hand and whispered back "I love you too."
'Fuck! She wasn’t meant to hear that!' Olivia thought. But she melted when she heard those four words coming out of Alex's mouth. Smiling contentedly, she closed her eyes to go to sleep, thinking they would just have to deal with it in the morning, but for tonight she was just happy to sleep in the arms of the woman she loved.
