Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime Adventures - down

Well, its been a nice couple days out here in NY. No snow, but pleasant weather.

Makes me seriously wonder what the heck is going on out here. There should be a foot of snow and cold, freezing wind blowing all of the time.

Anyhow, DQ: Rocket Slime is defeated.

Really fun game, fast paced, collection/story-driven content with an utterly fantastic localization job. Every character had a unique speech style and the amount of effort they put into concentrated puns left me laughing every other Tank Battle. From the jovial ChronoTwigger to the epic Jeane-Claude Lonely, the game was full of jokes and silly humor. 14 hr, 59 mins to 100 slimes. *yawn*

The game did a good job of pacing out the new creatures along with having a very interactive environment where every creature could be "Elasto-blasted" with differing results. In one of the most enjoyable twists, they left the jumping puzzles until the end of the game. A very wise move, considering how the game worked out.

Probably, the thing that bothered me the most was that the Tank battles in the storyline were very under-whelming. I mean, sure, they keep those easy so that the people who are just playing through the game can have an easy time and not get blocked. However, it felt like it could have really ramped up a bit better.

However, what was really an issue was how the AI destroyed the Tanks. Because the monsters choose to attack you rather than your tank engine, I was able to fight the final boss from 1100/1500 hp to 0/1500 without actually skillfull using the cannons. I just kept the NPCs from hitting the engine while my buddy shot boulders out of the cannons for an hour.

Anyhow, small details from an over-all done game. Its clear the designers, I mean Deslimers, had a good time creating it.

Good travel game, if anyone's planning to fly this year.

I went to Wal-Mart today to pick-up a PS2-> TV adapter. Turns out I left mine in California. I'm a bit concerned that the one I picked up may be malfunctional - the metal prongs inside the adapter plug looked bent out of shape. :(

Oh well, if it works, I'll have something to do out here at the ranch.

My grandmother's been great, made steak yesterday, a roasted ham today and just tries too hard to be amazingly accomodating. She doesn't even have to try so hard - just being out here is a nice, relaxing change from the usual.

Well, guess its time to go see if the PS2 works. If not, I've got a nice thick copy of the Cryptonomicon to finish off...
