Do you like Tarantino movies the way I like them? :D I think they are not necessarily the greatest contribution to the world thought but I seem to love every single one of them ..

I'm happy to hear that "Django Unchained", in a good way, makes you want to go on a murder spree. :D

The movie started here last weekend and I suspect I'll see it myself in a week or two when there will be fewer people.

This was my idea as well - this week is snowy which means less people everywhere, include cinema. I hope you like this, but you are like me a fan of Tarantino's films, so it is likely you will.

I was so excited about this when I first heard about it, because I love Tarantino and I love westerns. WIN/WIN! But then someone at work was telling me about how much they loved Sam Jackson's character, and how funny he was, and he did some lines and I got kind of an icky feeling that maybe it made a joke of slavery. Maybe that guy misrepresented. I wouldn't expect that from Tarantino?

ANYWAY I'M STILL GONNA SEE IT. For all of the reasons you list plus WESTERN, and hope for the best!

It is always an odd thing with Tarantino - it is easy to interpret his films (if you just lay them down word by word) as a joke about Nazism or slavery or some other non-jokable topic. But when I watch the actual films they always seem to be more than a sum of their parts.

In "Django" I appreciated the fact that the whole film is about the black guy goes around shooting all those white people (I am trying my hardest not to spoil) and all those white people are watching it in their cinemas and loving it. HOW CAN TARANTINO MANAGE THIS?

..I liked Jackson's character but he was so twisted.

I was just talking to a friend about the violence in Django Unchained! It does have Tarantino's trademark style, an almost gleeful blood spewing everywhere, that makes you want to cheer/applaud, but I was pleased (if that is the right word) by a second kind of depiction of violence, that which the slaves suffered. The mandingo fight and the dog attacks were treated with a deft hand-- gritty, realistic, barebones. I really appreciated the distinction between the two kinds.

I agree, Christoph Waltz is such a delight :D Phew, SLJ's performance was ballsy, to the point of discomfort, it was great!

Yes! That is true! You have expressed this so well! I "felt" that things were done right in the film, but could not point my finger on how.

I quite liked Jamie Foxx as well. But Tarantino is always good at choosing actors. Even DeCaprio 9who has never been one of my faves) impressed me. He is always filmed as "hero" for his good looks, but he seems much stronger as a villain.

I was just saying at work today that I was thinking about going to see Django Unchained again because I needed a little more violence and that last movie I saw, Jack Reacher, was disappointingly subdued in the violence department. I'm glad to know someone gets me LOL

Anyway, I loved loved LOVED this movie. I think I liked it even more than Inglorious Bastards.

Django I think is unparalleled in this regard among Hollywood films. If you fancy something similar, Korean or Japanese films are quite good at doing this. Something like Vengeance Trilogy (start with "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" ) or "Battle Royale".

I liked it more than Inglorious Basterds too..

YAY! I have not been posting much due to back problems (and new job) but I think I am getting to bored - I need to have an outlet to vent my opinions. :D

I am going to buy the soundtrack too. I think it is award-deserving by itself.

I can't even express how much I like Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds. He is just a scene-stealer whatever I see him on screen. And his language abilities just leave me in awe.
