I am so happy to report that I think I have a baking talent. I have never baked anything before as baking always looked very complex, even mystical, but to my surprise after 40+ years of life I have discovered that baking is like programming: you put correct ingredients in correct amounts in correct order and cook under correct temperature in ( Read more... )

It's absolutely true - baking works best if you have a precise, careful mind! This is why in our house, Kieran does the baking. :D I meanwhile prefer the magical alchemy of stews, soups etc where you can just do everything by eye and taste.

You are clever - I can't do uncertain things well. My cooking is usually "stick to what I know well" variety.

You see, I really like the results. I am such a sweet tooth so for me there is nothing better than a home made cake. And I can do them myself now!

This is what I love about baking - follow the instructions carefully and you get beautiful results. It doesn't suit everyone but for a programmer like yourself, it sounds like it comes pretty naturally!

Exactly! I think I just had a completely wrong idea! And for so long!
