In which Amy contemplates the fate of some of her sites and updates Windward

So, as I have said before, I am working pretty diligently on God's Decay, my Shirou Kamui tribute. It's a slow process that involves rewriting almost everything as well as developing new ideas. One thing about the new site is that it will (eventually) have manga volume summaries, which are pretty rare at this point. It's fun, but challenging ( Read more... )

I'm actually doing that right now; sitting down and revamping my Inuyasha sites. It's actually not too bad, even though I have somewhere around 50 volumes for the series, it's actually been kind of fun to re-read the series again (it's actually been a while since the last time I read it in its entirety). I figured I'd start with Inuyasha because it's over and done with and writing the content anew is going to be a lot easier. I'm not entirely looking forward to redoing my own FY fan site but I imagine once I sit down for it again, it'll be kind of refreshing to re-emerge myself in it. XD ( ... )

The charm of Inuyasha for me was always the characters and their interactions, not the journey/leveling up aspect, and it seemed around the point Shichinintai show up, things were getting repetitive. There are still episodes I love after that point (mostly Miroku and Sango episodes), but the series in general started to lose interest for me. I think Fushigi Yuugi started to lose me once they had all the characters gathered and Miaka's virginity became paramount (which I found a little problematic). The characters I liked either died or got pushed into the background in favor of Miaka and Tamahome.

It will be great to see what you accomplish when you update your sites. I always particularly loved "Void of Restraint", which made me hesitate to make "Wayward Romeo" since it was so well done. Also, thanks for your kind and encouraging remarks. I sometimes worry that I am being over sentimental about my websites, so it is good to know that they have some level of value for others.

I love Inuyasha for the same reasons... the character interaction over the fight scenes and more shounen aspects. It's the reason why I love One Piece, too. There may be giant battles and training and all that sort of thing, but the characters just have this incredible chemistry with each other. I suppose that's why both series fared so well in Japan and over here ( ... )

That's the bad thing about having so many sites. We keep improving and our standards keep changing, and it's hard to keep every site up to our own standards. I only run six sites, but I only feel good about the last two I built (Drew and Reiko) and the last one I revamped (Sabin). The other three need updating badly. I've kind of just come to terms with it accepting that it will take a while for me to get all three done, and having three sites that I feel really proud of is amazing. Every site doesn't have to be perfect.

It sounds like you have a plan regarding yours. I had a similar issue with my site to Knuckles (haven't played the games in years and have no interest to go back to them) and I took it offline. I'm planning on bringing it back eventually, but it was just too embarrassing in the state it was in.

You have a lot of great sites and I can't imagine anybody thinks badly of you for the sites you're not proud of. We all have sites that aren't our best. Good luck with your sites!

Thanks. I think a lot of these projects will grow from this decision, maybe not in size, but in clarity and function.

Your Drew Barrymore project is really great. What an interesting and innovative idea! Have you already seen Donnie Darko yet or will you be watching it for the first time? My Livejournal actually gets its name from that movie (Manipulated Dead).

Aw, thanks, Amy Marie!

I have seen Donnie Darko, but will be rewatching it for my Drew Barrymore marathon. It's a great movie. I'm surprised it didn't do well when it came out.

I've been finding myself in the same situation recently, particularly with my Magic Knight Rayearth sites. I've found that turning them into one-page tributes is a nice compromise, especially with sites that are smaller to begin with: it just seems less daunting to keep up with one-pagers than multi-pagers, even if the amount of content is more-or-less the same.

I think that the removal of media is not as detrimental now as it would have been ten years ago. The average age of the shrining community is older than it used to be, and as such we expect different things from our shrines. I've found that compelling reads go a lot further nowadays than things like icons and wallpapers.

Also, like Todd said, I think it's fine to take a shrine offline until you feel like working on it again, if you ever do. That's what I've done with my Fuu shrine, and it's nice to have it not hanging over my shoulder in its misspelled, content-lacking state.

I just finished reading the second half of MKR for the first time and that was certainly an interesting series. I actually like making one page shrines because they help cut through some of the basics or extras and get to the really interesting bits. Unlike fanlistings, they at least give a sense of the person's view of a character or series (beyond "I'm a fan"), so I really like them. Also, it seems like there are a lot of places to get media these days, so the galleries and icon sections seem a little unnecessary. I'm just happy to see how much activity there is in the website community these days. ^^

I'm finding it really exciting that so many of my friends are kind of coming back to their sites and revamping them again. The anime/manga community really needs a jolt of awesomeness. I feel so nostalgic going back through my old sites, but I still love them too much to get rid of them. The sites that I'm no longer interested in updating are in archived mode. The rest, I figure I'll go back to them some day.

There are also some sites that I never got around to making (Ouran & Escaflowne). There's about a 1% chance that I'll make them some day, but for now I'm really enjoying the revamps of you guys' timeless sites. :D

Revamping for a lot of my sites has almost amounted to creating a completely new site. =) I agree that it's really nice to see the work people are putting into their projects. Things have changed so much since I started, but for me it is still a fun hobby.
