What's Making Me Happy This Week

It's not Friday, but whatever. This is hardly a regular weekly feature, and anyway, I run this show.

Hamilton. I reluctantly accept the fact that I'm very unlikely to actually see the show on Broadway, so I'll just have to pray that they really do film a performance sometime. On the other hand, I can listen to the cast album as often as I want, ( Read more... )

So I read Carry On in this weird meta way where I was trying to imagine the fake, canon last book in the series that this was a fanfic preview of. Like, the canon ship is clearly Simon and Agatha, but Agatha is probably never a pov character in canon, so it's plausible to create this scenario for how Simon and Baz end up together....

Whinch makes me wonder if Rainbow Rowell has the whole "actual" Simon Snow series in her head somewhere, along with Carry On.

Based on the snippets of Simon Snow she included in Fangirl I think at the very least she had an outline of how the series would've played out. I know she's said in interviews thatCarry On is Rainbow's Simon and Baz story, not Gemma's or Cath's.

It's so interesting, because for us it's its own canon, but within Cath's world, it's not. It's all very meta and amusing to me!

Do you have to read Fangirl to understand Carry On?

Carry On is completely self-contained. If you've read Fangirl you'll recognize the characters, but you definitely don't need any prior knowledge to enjoy the book.
