So I've been thinking of taking a certificate program at the UW Extension to become a paralegal. I think that I would make a good paralegal, but the prospect of starting over in a completely new field is frightening. I just can't see how I will be able to continue in my current job forever. You would make a good paralegal. I think it's a great idea to start taking classes. You'd make a great teacher, too. If you don't feel fulfilled in what your doing now it makes great sense to start taking baby steps towards other fields by taking classes here and there until you figure out what would fulfill you.

Don't stress too much about your job issues. You wouldn't have any trouble finding something else if something happened to your job. You have tons of assets to offer any perspective employer, even if what you do now is specialized. Often times perspective employers look at the underlying attributes of the work you do not the specifics. I once got a job as a receptionist at a design firm because I had worked in a vet office and they knew I wouldn't turn my nose up at keeping the office kitchen clean. So, you never know what people are going to see in your experience.
