It's the unfortunate problem of being an independent dependent. As long as you are relying on the support of your parents, they have some hold on you, and you have some form of obligation to them. I don't know much to say to help you with most of this, bud. You know I'm around if you need to talk or get away from things, though.
Also, you have filled out the FAFSA and such right? Even if you don't qualify for subsidies or grants, the government will usually offer a deferred payment, low-interest loan (the stanford loan) to students even with higher EFC's. You just have to indicate on the FAFSA and to the Financial Aid department that this is something you'd be interested in.
