I have no love for the term consumer, not when stated in a general sense including people such as myself. It is deragatory. I've been thinking a lot of my purchasing habits, clothes, appliances, well everything for the house and where can I reduce and reuse.

The concept of consumer really started with corporate/propaganda in the late 1920's with the invention of "public relations" as a way to increase consumption of all kinds of products - the beginning of this constant growth economy that is ruining our world and lives.
Edward L. Bernays, nephew of Sigmund Freud, is widely recognized as the father of public relations. Bernays graduated from Cornell University in 1912 and opened the first recognized public-relations firm with Doris Fleischman in 1919.[7]
